One of the best Youtube channels for music analysis and fandom is Polyphonic as they show the stripped down meaning in songs whether it be their lyrics or composition. It’s really unique take on covering music and showing it from non-aesthetic light but in a complete analytic breakdown. Imagine that one class you had in college that you actually liked writing papers in, and read what other people covered in their essay. That’s what these videos feel like, and they really take the cake with a new in-depth look at Green Day’s triumphant 2003 concept classic ‘American Idiot’.
The video with superb editing, all-encompassing research, and genuine approach displays the story of the characters in the lyrics of this epic punk rock opera that helped re-establish Green Day as one of the most prolific bands of a generation. If you know a Green Day fan, they need to see this.
If you need even more of a fun fix from Billie Joe Armstrong and company, watch our exclusive ‘press conference’ with band before their fantastic Wrigley Field shows last year.
Hallmark is ahead of the St. Valentine’s Day game this year. Yes, the card with the candies is your standard go-to but this year the company is rolling out special ’45 vinyl card packs that give your music lover more to love. The packs can be customized with a personal message handwritten in a style of your choice. The vinyl will feature two songs each from runo Mars, Aretha Franklin and INXS. Three different models and several different personalized modifications in packaging can give your Valentine the tuneful love day they deserve.
It’s going to be a busy 2018 for Marvel Studios. On February, 16th we get “Black Panther.” May, 4th “Avengers: Infinity War” is set to destroy box office records. Now, we get our first look at the follow up to 2015’s “Ant-Man.” The trailer for “Ant-Man and the Wasp” is below. We’ll see that on July, 6th.
Also out in May is “Deadpool 2.” I know this is technically a 20th Centery Fox movie, but they were just bought by Disney, who owns Marvel Studios (and almost everything else). So, just for craps and giggles, I threw it in.
Billy Corgan chats with Smashing Pumpkins in 2016
In a long post, Smashing Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan may have revealed in an Instagram post that the beloved Chicago alternative band could be doing an album with famed rock producer Rick Rubin. The rumors and leaks continue to swirl around the Pumpkins getting (most of) their original lineup back together for a tour in 2018, now it seems they are working with the acclaimed musical wizard who has previously helped craft classic albums with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Green Day, U2, and many more. Corgan and Rubin recently worked together on his 2017 solo album.’Ogilala’.
Now this all could be Billy playing with fans and those speculating on his musical future but it looks something is happening, and we’re excited to see where it leads.
Last week, Corgan scared fans with an IG photo he shared of himself getting IV fluids, and a sarcastic caption that used the cryptic phrase “making peace”. The always-engaging Corgan then followed this up with silly singing jingle video to assure “I’m fine, I’m fine”
Also last week, we learned that Pumpkins original bassist D’Arcy Wretzky will not be a part of the reunion but she did say the band would tour. Corgan lead a Smashing Pumpkins acoustics tour last year that saw original guitarist James Iha for several noteworthy cameos. Original pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin (who played Corgan when he revived the band in 2005) also has been playing with Corgan in the Pumpkins over the last few years on sporadic tours.

After a three hiatus, the Arctic Monkey are back. The English band who have scored hits ‘Do I Wanna Know’, ‘Why’d you only call me when your high?’ and “I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor’ are set to storm across Europe on festival dates.
According to Paste, the AMs have these festival dates set for 2018 festival season. Note, you don’t see any dates in the United States and there is an opening in early August that could lineup with Chicago’s Lollapalooza, a festival they have graced before with their luscious sounds. Yes, this sounds weird. Apparently Chicago’s greatest edible offering to the world Pizza could be a better option for your breakfast than most cereals. Yeah, I am still trying to rap my head around this.
“You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories,” explained Chelsey Amer, nutrition expert speaking to The Daily Meal. “However, pizza packs a much larger protein punch, which will keep you full and boost satiety throughout the morning.”
Well, here’s the thing: I was going to eat the pizza anyway, but appreciate the support from science and food experts.
You can read the whole article from the Chicago Tribune here.
Now let’s debate which of our neighborhood pizza place will have best slice at 7am.
Let’s just hope it’s better than those awful Lunchable pizza things.
Ronda Rousey, one of the most popular MMA fighters of all time shocked the sports and entertainment world last night in Philadelphia when she made her surprise debut with WWE. That’s right, the former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion is now wrestling full-time with the biggest pro wrestling company. ESPN would later confirmed that Rousey has signed a multi-year deal with the company.
The rumors have been swirling for months that Rousey would actually get into the ring in her debut at Sunday’s Royal Rumble which featured the first 30 Women over-the-top rope Rumble match, but Rousey swerved the speculation earlier this week when she told a TMZ reporter at an airport she would not be available as she was filming a movie in Columbia. That was true, but Rousey made a multi-flight trans-continental cross-state lines trip in secret on Sunday to make it in time to strut out after WWE wrecking-machine Asuka won the inaugural Rumble. Rousey’s debut deeply teased her competing at WWE’s Super Bowl of body-slams and fun, Wrestlemania in April.
Rousey stood toe-to-toe with Rumble winner Asuka (who refused to shake her hand), WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte, WWE Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, and then followed this by giving a handshake to WWE boss Stephanie McMahon who looked like she was pretty scared. The rogue Rousey seemed to be eating up the adulation as she came out at the Wells-Fargo Arena to Joan Jett and the Blackhearts ‘Bad Reputation’ in a jacket she was gifted by the family of WWE Hall of Famer ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper.
Rousey is a big coup for WWE to say the least. She’s been one of the biggest draws for UFC, becoming the first female star the fighting promotion really got behind. She has had a long love affair with pro wreslting and briefly got in the ring for schuffle at Wresltemania a few years back. She even could be seen at Pro Wrestling Guerilla, an independent wrestling group running packed small shows in California. She’s a fan for sure, and has been training for this leap into the wrestling ring for some years.
WWE had one helluva night in other matches last night at Royal Rumble setting the stage for Wrestlemania. The uber-charismatic Shinsuke Nakamura who had previously rocked the hard-hitting New Japan Pro Wrestling, won the Men’s Royal Rumble match, likely setting the stage for a dream match between himself and WWE Champion ‘the Phenomenal’ AJ Styles. In the Women’s Royal Rumble match, the wild-eyed wrecking machine Asuka won her title match at ‘Mania in the multi-women mash-up which featured female stars of yesteryear clashing with WWE’s new class.

The Foo Fighters have a pedigree for making special moments on their acclaimed live shows whether it’s band leader Dave Grohl brekaing his leg and continuing the show or following that up with a stadium tour where he performed on a giant robotic throne, they are always exceeding expectations. That continued recently as the band played sold-out shows in Australia, and they brought young fan on stage who absolutely ripped it up on guitar on ‘Monkey Wrench’.
This news report comes from 7 News in Brisbane. I am absolutely charmed with them calling the band ‘the Fooeys’. lt is adorable.
Here is the raw video of Joey jamming with the FOOEYS
Before they jammed the Aragon, Walk the Moon visited the 101WKQX LOUNGE with an massively fun session that featured the band digging deep into their musical message, random raps, GIANT CAT HEADS, and an intimate performance for select contest winners.
This session includes performances of ‘One Foot’, ‘Kamikaze’ and ‘ Shut Up and Dance with Me’
Yesterday, Thirty Seconds to Mars rolled out a new sexy single ‘Dangerous Night’ and performed the song live for the first time on the ‘Late Show with Stephen Colbert’. The performance was unique as it featured the band using a highly advanced robotic camera that made the entire song in one single continuous shot with the viewer being jerked around the stage like you are on a point-of-view roller coaster. It made the whole video stand out and not be just another band performing on TV.
This new song is the second single from 30TM after ‘Walk on Water’ came out a few months back. These first new songs heard from Jared Leto and company since the release of 2013’s Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams.
HBO is doing a documentary on the Eighth Wonder of the World, Andre The Giant. Hard to believe he died at only 46. This will hit HBO in April.

Jack White got the hype bees buzzing two weeks ago when he released two new songs off his upcoming album ‘Boarding House Research’ (due out March 23rd) and just last week announced a big tour that has people already rumoring he’s on a HUGE Chicago music fest, but today the Michigan bred musical maverick posted a new funky cut called ‘Corporation’.
The mostly instrumental jam features big bongos, electric organ, soul chaps, and a head-bobbing guitar riff. The song repeats the galvanizing White spitting out an instigating rant asking “whose with me?!” You can just picture White and an all-star band bringing down the house with this ramble-rouser that says so much with it’s swerving rhythm. It’s just another reminder that White will not be bound to any expectations, he’s just always going to experiment and come out ahead.
Here are the other new songs from White posted two weeks ago.
