Oooo Girl! MGMT bring ‘Electric Feel’ to CBS’s ‘Late Show’

Fresh off the release of their new album and two shows in Chicago this weekend, alt dance duo MGMT perform their latest single ‘Me & Michael’ as well as their enduring hit ‘Electric Feel’ on the ‘Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ on CBS last night.

The second performance was a special one as it featured John Batiste and Stay Human, and Colbert express his personal love for ‘Electric Feel’ stating it was song they would consistently play for the studio audience during commerical breaks. It was given a jazzy horn dusting from the Late Show band, and this live version really feels out the middle section of the song so much that really feels like a rousing hip-shaking conclusion at the end.

Watch American Celebs in weird Japanese commercials

Sometimes American celebs feel off about endorsing a product in a commercial, or at least they feel reluctant do so on TV here in the States or in Europe. Enter Japan, where several popular actors like Nicolas Cage and Arnold Schwarzenegger have appeared in madcap spots selling soft drinks and other things we don’t get see here.

Good Mythical Morning’s Rhett and Link take on this trans-pacific pop culture conundrum, and they quiz each other on what might happen in these commercials with Britney Spears, Sylvester Stallone, Cage, Arnold, and more. It’s just eye-opening to see what these celebs do in these off-the-wall commercials. It’s all a head-spinner but you also have to appreciate the sense of humor and the unique way they pitch a product in these commercials.

It does remind me of that classic Simpsons episode where Homer finds his likeness is being used to sell laundry detergent called ‘Mr. Sparkle’.

St. Vincent & Bleachers’ Jack Antonoff talk butts, touring, & more

In the Vevo series ‘Artists on Artist’, St. Vincent and her music producing pal from Bleachers, Jack Antonoff talk a wide range of deep and not-so-deep topics from the process to create her latest album ‘Masseduction’, used sex toys, how much butt they will let you show on network TV, and other fun things.

It’s delightful chat between like-minded gems in the alternative music world. I would love to see a show where Jack interviews all types of people, he has a knack for finding the real meat of a person’s experiences.

Enjoy a look back at both of our LOUNGE sessions with St. Vincent and Bleachers below.

Bear’s Jordan Howard promises playoffs next year

The Chicago Bears did not have a good season in 2017/18, and we all knew it. The Bears themselves knew it, new coach is hired, and we move on. So what do the Bears themselves think of their chances in the next season? Well, Jordan Howard had a bold prediction for NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” when he said he inspired by former Bear Alshon Jeffery who shot-called his current team the Eagles winning the Super Bowl last year.

“The Bears are definitely going to have a winning season,” Howard said. “We’re going to get to the playoffs. So I guarantee we get to the playoffs.”

Yeah, considering how much trouble the Monsters of the Midway had last year this sounds challenging, but it shows the team’s stars still have a fighting spirit which under our new coach Matt Nagy that is a positive. It’s also good to hear this proclamation from brightest offensive star on the Bears at this time.

The Bears finished with a 5-11 record last season. They have not made it to the playoffs since 2010. and have not had a winning season since 2012.

Szechuan Sauce is Back Today!

McDonald’s is bringing back Szechuan Sauce today and we have “Rick and Morty” to thank…again. The sauce originally cam out in the 90’s as part of the promotion for the Disney movie “Mulan.” McDonald’s eventually discontinued the sauce, but it found new life after it was featured on R&M. Fans pretty much drove McDonald’s crazy until the did a limited release of the sauce last fall. By limited I mean like 8 packets at select stores. People waited in line for hours to get their hands on the sauce and were not happy when they couldn’t get it. In same cases it led to riots breaking out. Yes. All over a dipping sauce no one cared about since 1998. Well, today McD’s is trying to make it all good. This time around all locations should have it. They reported shipped 20 million packets of the sauce. Still, if you’re trying to get your hands on some you might not want to wait. Who knows how long it will last.

Wubba lubba dub dub.

But, if you want to skip right to making your own, Binging with Babish has you covered.

Kevin Smith Survives Massive Heart Attack

Kevin Smith was forced to cancel a show in California last night after suffering a ‘massive heart attack’ following his first show of the night. The good news is it sounds like he’s going to be okay.

He followed that up with this post on his Facebook Page

“I was trying to do a killer standup special this evening but I might’ve gone too far. After the first show, I felt kinda nauseous. I threw up a little but it didn’t seem to help. Then I started sweating buckets and my chest felt heavy. Turns out I had a massive heart attack. The Doctor who saved my life at the#glendale hospital told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (also known as “the Widow-Maker” because when it goes, you’re a goner). If I hadn’t canceled the second show to go to the hospital, the Doc said I would’ve died tonight. For now, I’m still above ground! But this is what I learned about myself during this crisis: death was always the thing I was most terrified of in life. When the time came, I never imagined I’d ever be able to die with dignity – I assumed I’d die screaming, like my Dad (who lost his life to a massive heart attack). But even as they cut into my groin to slip a stent into the lethal Widow-Maker, I was filled with a sense of calm. I’ve had a great life: loved by parents who raised me to become the individual I am. I’ve had a weird, wonderful career in all sorts of media, amazing friends, the best wife in the world and an incredible daughter who made me a Dad. But as I stared into the infinite, I realized I was relatively content. Yes, I’d miss life as it moved on without me – and I was bummed we weren’t gonna get to make#jayandsilentbobreboot before I shuffled loose the mortal coil. But generally speaking, I was okay with the end, if this was gonna be it. I’ve gotten to do so many cool things and I’ve had so many adventures – how could I be shitty about finally paying the tab. But the good folks at the Glendale hospital had other plans and the expertise to mend me. Total strangers saved my life tonight (as well as my friends @jordanmonsanto & @iamemilydawn, who called the ambulance). This is all a part of my mythology now and I’m sure I’ll be facing some lifestyle changes (maybe it’s time to go Vegan). But the point of this post is to tell you that I faced my greatest fear tonight… and it wasn’t as bad as I’ve always imagined it’d be. I don’t want my life to end but if it ends, I can’t complain. It was such a gift.#KevinSmith

Smith (aka “Silent Bob”) was behind cult hits like “Clerks,” “Mall Rats,” “Chasing Amy” and more. Here’s a quick recovery.

How Does Blink-182’s Travis Barker Deal…With His Son Asking for Tattoos?

I have to imagine that as tattoos have become more a part of regular life, inked parents will eventually have to cross this bridge.

TMZ caught up with Travis Barker this week — and asked about when it was cool for his son to get tattoos.  Well, he started getting ink at the age of 15, so I would think a totally relevant question between father and his kid.  The Blink-182 drummer revealed his 14 year old son is already asking about facial tattoos…and shared the advice he gave his offspring:

As a tattooed parent, how would you handle it?  How HAVE you handled it, might be the more appropriate question…?  — [eric]

SMASHING PUMPKINS’ BILLY CORGAN SHARES PROPOSED SETLIST FOR REUNION TOUR

The feel good vibes continue in anticipation of their 30th anniversary tour as the Smashing Pumpkins continued to stir the pot of fan excitement this week. Billy Corgan posted online a list of potential songs from the band’s classic era that could make up the set list for the long-anticipated tour reunion between himself, James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin. Jeff Schroder who has played with Corgan as a member of the Pumpkins over the past few years will be in the fold as well. The tour will feature SP focusing on the albums Gish to Adore.

It’s intriguing to see Corgan teasing some choice cover songs from David Bowie, Led Zepplin, and Joy Division.

You may have read about the drama with original bassist D’Arcy Wretzky but let’s get past that and focus on what grand songs we might hear on August 13th when they return to the United Center.

Robert Delong is back with us with this self-deprecating track that features the always engaging K.Flay that describes the dark side of life with an obvious color ‘Blue’.
