The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Participation constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and Sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest. Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein.

  1. Contest Period. The Contest will begin at 4:23 pm CT on Friday, March 2, 2018 and will run through 11:59pm CT on Sunday, July 1, 2018 (the “Contest Period”).  The Station’s computer is the official time keeping device for this Contest.

Any attempt by any participant to submit more than one (1) entry by using multiple/different email addresses, identities, registrations and logins, or any other methods will void that entry and the participant may be disqualified.  Use of any automated system to participate is prohibited and will result in disqualification. Station is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, invalid, unintelligible, inappropriate or misdirected registrations, all of which will be disqualified.  In the event of a dispute as to any registration, the authorized account holder of the email address used to register will be deemed to be the participant. The “authorized account holder” is the natural person assigned the telephone number by the wireless carrier or an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted address.  Potential winner may be required to show proof of being the authorized account holder. All entries become the sole and exclusive property of Station and will not be returned.  Station reserves the right to contact entrants and all other individuals whose email address is submitted as part of this promotion.  No mail-in entries will be accepted.

  1. Winner Selection. On or about 10:00 am CT on Monday, July 2, 2018, Station will select one (1) entry for the Grand Prize in a random drawing from among all valid entries received by Station during the Contest Period.  The winning entrant will be contacted using the email address and/or telephone number provided with the entry and may be awarded the prize (subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with the terms of these rules). Station’s decisions as to the administration and operation of the Contest and the selection of the potential winner are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest. Failure to respond to the initial verification contact within three (3) days of notification will result in disqualification.
  2. Verification of Potential Winner. POTENTIAL CONTEST WINNER IS SUBJECT TO VERIFICATION BY STATION WHOSE DECISIONS ARE FINAL AND BINDING IN ALL MATTERS RELATED TO THE CONTEST. The potential winner must continue to comply with all terms and conditions of these Official Rules, and winning is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements. The potential winner will be required to sign and return to Station, within three (3) days of the date notice is sent, an affidavit of eligibility and a liability/publicity release (except where prohibited) in order to claim his/her prize, if applicable.  A winner who returns the affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release will be deemed to have accepted the Contest Prize and thereafter will not be permitted to rescind their acceptance of the prize and/or return the prize. If a potential winner cannot be contacted, fails to sign and return the affidavit of eligibility and/or the liability/publicity release within the required time period (if applicable), or if the prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, potential winner forfeits prize. In the event that the potential winner of a prize is disqualified for any reason, Station may award the applicable prize to an alternate winner by random drawing from among all remaining eligible entries.
  3. Grand Prize. One (1) Grand Prize will be awarded in this Contest.  The Grand Prize is two (2) tickets to Radiohead on either Friday, July 6, 2018 or Saturday, July 7, 2018 at United Center. 4. Entry Conditions and Release. By entering, each participant agrees to: (a) comply with and be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Station, which are binding and final in all matters relating to this Contest; (b) release and hold harmless Station, Cumulus Media Inc., and its subsidiaries, related and affiliated companies, participating sponsors, the prize suppliers and any other organizations responsible for sponsoring, fulfilling, administering, advertising or promoting the Contest, and each of their respective past and present officers, directors, employees, agents and representatives (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from and against any and all claims, expenses, and liability, including but not limited to negligence and damages of any kind to persons and property, including but not limited to invasion of privacy (under appropriation, intrusion, public disclosure of private facts, false light in the public eye or other legal theory), defamation, slander, libel, violation of right of publicity, infringement of trademark, copyright or other intellectual property rights, property damage, or death or personal injury arising out of or relating to a participant’s entry, creation of an entry or submission of an entry, participation in the Contest, acceptance or use or misuse of prize (including any travel or activity related thereto) and/or the broadcast, exploitation or use of entry; and (c) indemnify, defend and hold harmless the Released Parties from and against any and all claims, expenses, and liabilities (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or relating to an entrant’s participation in the Contest and/or entrant’s acceptance, use, non-use or misuse of the prize.
  5. Except where prohibited, participation in the Contest constitutes winner’s consent to Station’s and its agents’ use of winner’s name, likeness, photograph, voice, opinions and/or hometown and state for promotional purposes in any media, worldwide, without further payment or consideration, unless otherwise prohibited by law.

Station reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or to be acting in violation of these Official Rules or any other promotion or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Any attempt by any person to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil law, and, should such an attempt be made, Station reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Station’s failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.
  8. Limitations of Liability. The Released Parties are not responsible for: (1) any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by entrants, printing errors or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest; (2) technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (3) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Contest; (4) technical or human error which may occur in the administration of the Contest or the processing of entries; or (5) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the Contest or receipt or use, non-use or misuse of any prize. If for any reason an entrant’s entry is confirmed to have been erroneously deleted, lost, or otherwise destroyed or corrupted, entrant’s sole remedy is another entry in the Contest, provided that if it is not possible to award another entry due to discontinuance or completion of the Contest, or any part of it, for any reason, Station, at its discretion, may elect to hold a random drawing from among all eligible entries received up to the date of discontinuance for any or all of the prizes offered herein. No more than the stated number of prizes will be awarded. In event that production, technical, programming or any other reason causes more than stated number of prizes as set forth in these Official Rules to be available or claimed, Station reserves the right to award only the stated number of prizes by a random drawing among all legitimate, unawarded, eligible prize claims.
  9. Entrant agrees that: (i) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest, or any prizes awarded, other than those concerning the administration of the Contest or the determination of the winner, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; (ii) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest, or any prizes awarded, shall be resolved exclusively by the United States District Court or the appropriate state court located in the Station’s listening area; (iii) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Contest, but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (iv) under no circumstances will entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATIONS OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of entrant and Sponsor in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the state in which the Station is located, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the state in which the Station is located or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the state in which the Station is located.

Watch They Might Be Giants perform on CONAN

Alternative legends They Might Be Giants perform last night on TBS’s ‘CONAN’ playing a track off their new album ‘I Like Fun’. The fresh song called

“I Left My Body” reminds you why this band has been able to do so many different styles withing the world of alt from doing albums specically meant for kids, to songs that play well as music videos for ‘Tiny Toon Adventures’ to holiday songs that talk about Santa Claus stealing your wife. Yes, these are all things that TMBG has done. Now they are doing song about forgetting your body when you are on a meta-physical journey out of your mortal coil? Yeah, they are pretty special.

If that was not enough delightfully weird musical adventure for you, they also ran the ‘Dial-a-Song’ phone service where you would call a number to hear an brand new song or potential demo that band was working on. It ran from 1983-2006, and came back in 2015 as an app and a website. You can still call it the old fashion way too. Call 844 387-6962.

If you are a fan of classic OG alternative from the 80’s, 90’s, or the 2000’s, well check out ALT_Backspace every Sunday morning 10a-12pm on 101WKQX with Brian.

Should marijuana be legal in Illinois? That question may end up on the November ballot.

Should marijuana be legal in Illinois? That question may end up on the November ballot. The State Senate voted 37-13 today to approve the following question:
“Shall the State of Illinois legalize the cultivation, manufacture, distribution, testing, and sale of marijuana and marijuana products for recreational use by adults 21 and older subject to state regulation, taxation and local ordinance?”

Now it goes to the Illinois House of Representatives. If the question does end up on the November ballot, the results aren’t considered binding. Instead, the question would serve as an “opinion poll.”

A similar question is already planned for Cook County voters on the March 20 primary election ballot.

Listen to Run the Jewel’s dark remix of Lorde ‘Supercut’

Lorde is hitting the road this week with the hottest rap duo to crossover to the alt universe in some time, Run the Jewels. To celebrate this merger of musical wonder,  Killer Mike and EL-P released a remix of Lorde’s Melodrama track ‘Supercut’. The dark-tinged take on the 2017 song features RTJ adding a verse and laying on the mean side-eye glare vibe we all have when we look back at old pictures of our ex’s.

Here is a more intimate version of ‘Supercut’, Lorde performed for Vevo.

NEW MUSIC ALERT! CHVRCHES ‘My Enemy’ ft. Matt from the National

Chvrches continue the march to their new album ‘Love is Dead’ with the release today of a duet with Matt Berninger of the National called ‘My Enemy’. It lyrically continues the break-up vibes of the most recent track from the album ‘Get Out’ (you can hear that below) and it has this soft delivery but if you listen the two characters in this do not seem to feel the same way about each other anymore. So yeah if you got dumped around Valentine’s Day, well here’s your emo dance jams.

Check out the full track list for ‘Love is Dead’ here. No release date just yet, but we’ll share it as soon as it becomes available.

Blink-182 boycott Fed-Ex over the NRA

In the wake of the tragic mass shooting in Parkland, Florida,  many businesses like major airlines and car rental companies are ending agreements with the National Rifle Association due to public demand, now that movement has made it way into music with Blink-182.

Blink’s Mark Hoppus announced on Twitter yesterday that they will no longer be working with shipping company Fed-Ex if the company continues it’s relationship with the NRA.

Hoppus made this proclamation on Tuesday, following Fed-Ex releasing a statement on Monday about how they were going to continue to work with the NRA despite public pressure to stop doing so. “FedEx has never set or changed rates for any of our millions of customers around the world in response to their politics, beliefs, or position on issues,” the shipping company said in a statement. Fed-Ex noted that the NRA was one of  “hundreds of organizations” that are in their alliances/associate marketing program, and the shipping titan will not discriminate against them.

Thank You For Everything Matt Forte

Even though Matt Forte spent his last two seasons in New York, the legendary running back has announced his immediate retirement from the NFL with a special note to Bears fans.

He leaves his mark with a total of 9,796 yards and 54 rushing touchdowns.  Check out his interview on the subject HERE

“…to all Chicago Bears fans, you’re truly the best fans in all of professional sports. Thank you for embracing my family and me from day one! The roar of the crowd at Soldier Field as I’d break a run or make a big catch will forever be ingrained in my mind. The past 25 years playing America’s game have left me with unparalleled joy. But, it’s time for the workhorse to finally rest in his stable. While my heart is a bit heavy as I close this chapter of my life, I am excited about what the future holds. God Bless and Bear Down!”

STP film in the works.

Showtime is planning a Stone Temple Pilots film. Kevin Sevener, a VP at the network, said ‘not a lot has been done about the band’ and that it will be ‘a compelling story.’ With STP’s history, that won’t be a hard promise to fulfill. From break ups, to side projects like Army of Anyone, to Chester Bennington taking over as the lead singer, the band has been through a lot. The fact that we lost both Chester and Scott Weiland and the band is still going with new lead singer Jeff Gutt is probably enough to fill a film on it’s own.

It sounds like Showtime is planning a few films like this that will focus on bands/music. See more at BroadcastingCable.com.

As for STP, they have their first album with Jeff Gutt behind the mic set for March 16th. Here’s one of the tracks from that album…

Oooo Girl! MGMT bring ‘Electric Feel’ to CBS’s ‘Late Show’

Fresh off the release of their new album and two shows in Chicago this weekend, alt dance duo MGMT perform their latest single ‘Me & Michael’ as well as their enduring hit ‘Electric Feel’ on the ‘Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ on CBS last night.

The second performance was a special one as it featured John Batiste and Stay Human, and Colbert express his personal love for ‘Electric Feel’ stating it was song they would consistently play for the studio audience during commerical breaks. It was given a jazzy horn dusting from the Late Show band, and this live version really feels out the middle section of the song so much that really feels like a rousing hip-shaking conclusion at the end.

Watch American Celebs in weird Japanese commercials

Sometimes American celebs feel off about endorsing a product in a commercial, or at least they feel reluctant do so on TV here in the States or in Europe. Enter Japan, where several popular actors like Nicolas Cage and Arnold Schwarzenegger have appeared in madcap spots selling soft drinks and other things we don’t get see here.

Good Mythical Morning’s Rhett and Link take on this trans-pacific pop culture conundrum, and they quiz each other on what might happen in these commercials with Britney Spears, Sylvester Stallone, Cage, Arnold, and more. It’s just eye-opening to see what these celebs do in these off-the-wall commercials. It’s all a head-spinner but you also have to appreciate the sense of humor and the unique way they pitch a product in these commercials.

It does remind me of that classic Simpsons episode where Homer finds his likeness is being used to sell laundry detergent called ‘Mr. Sparkle’.

St. Vincent & Bleachers’ Jack Antonoff talk butts, touring, & more

In the Vevo series ‘Artists on Artist’, St. Vincent and her music producing pal from Bleachers, Jack Antonoff talk a wide range of deep and not-so-deep topics from the process to create her latest album ‘Masseduction’, used sex toys, how much butt they will let you show on network TV, and other fun things.

It’s delightful chat between like-minded gems in the alternative music world. I would love to see a show where Jack interviews all types of people, he has a knack for finding the real meat of a person’s experiences.

Enjoy a look back at both of our LOUNGE sessions with St. Vincent and Bleachers below.
