Nicolas Cage IS Superman

Way back before comic book movies came out every week… like, 1990s way back, Tim Burton had a plan to put Nicolas Cage in the starring role of a Superman movie. The movie never got off the ground (so to speak), and Cage’s dream of wearing red underpants over his tights never became reality.

That all (kinda) changes this summer, as Cage has been announced to voice the part of Superman in the upcoming animated movie “Teen Titans GO! to the Movies.” It’s not quite the same thing, but the animated Titans are kind of amazing.

Chicago makes ‘diverse food scene’ list

A new study figured out which cities have the most diverse types of restaurants (and no, having a T.G.I. Friday’s, a Chili’s, and an Applebee’s doesn’t count).

Website Bott and Co. analyzed Google Maps to figure out which cities around the world had the most restaurants representing the food from different countries. Chicago came in fourth, confirming what we already knew: The food scene here is amazing.

Here’s the specific breakdown for Chicago. Looks like it’s time to start making a list and digging deeper into the city’s food scene…

Merchandise Mart Becomes “Digital Canvas” This Fall

Updated:  This piece of video artwork is now LIVE.  Stroll past the mart at dusk from NOW until December.

The former home of 101WKQX, the Merchandise Mart, will be transformed into a giant digital canvas starting this fall.

It’s called “Art On theMart,”  And it will feature 34 digital projectors teaming up to create giant pieces of public art on the side of the famed Chicago building.  Non-commercial pieces, I might add.  Expect to see zero ads and 100% creativity over the 30-year run of this project.

Projections will begin each day at dusk, and run for two hours each night of exhibition (Wednesday – Sundays).  You can get a great view from Wacker Dr. as well as the Chicago Riverwalk. — [eric]

Smashing Pumpkins Close To Finishing Two New EPs

The Smashing Pumpkins will once again tour this summer with most of their original lineup, playing to big arena crowds, but that is not all they are up to. Billy Corgan with guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chammberlin rejoining him as well as Jeff Schroeder (whose been in the Pumpkins since 2007) are working on some fresh material. The reunited band is close to finishing two new EPs of new music to usher in the fresh era. As if that was not enough, it’s being produced by the rock music producer Rick Rubin who worked with Corgan on his solo album ‘Ogilala’ and has been at the helm for albums from Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, System of a Down, and Johnny Cash.

Corgan confirmed the new music and shared the titles of the 8 songs that will make up the two EPs.

“Travels”
“Seek and You Shall Destroy”
“With Sympathy”
“Knights of Malta”
“Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)”
“Alienation”

Corgan gave more updates on the recording process of the EP’s. It’s worth noting that he’s also building towards another solo record as well.

I like this picture because it makes me laugh. As they like to say in wrestling, the biggest marks are in the back, behind the curtain. Last day today in Malibu. I’m very happy about that, but it does not make me laugh. James, Jimmy, and Jeff have put in a spectacular effort and we hope you will be pleased when you hear the results. So, to that, only background vocals on 4 songs are left. One of which will be tackled by a kind of mini-choir. That’s today’s last act. Details on the release of this music coming very soon. Thankfully due to digital technologies we can get these songs to you quickly. As it should be. Speaking personally, I’m very pleased with this music, and it reminds me (the process, that is) why we work well together as a team. It starts with a song, of course, but ends with an understanding. Happy Mario Day! Super Mario Takesover Google Maps

It’s March 10, Mario Day! And to celebrate the day of the beloved plumber turned adventurer Google has honored in a very unique and wonderful way that you can experience right now on your phone. For today, Mario has taken over Google Maps turning the GPS app into Mario Kart! I don’t know if you can lay bananas down to trip somebody else up or shoot off turtle shells, but it’s hoot to see Mario in his cart as I am looking the same route I take into NBC Tower.

Google calls the augmentation “Mario Time” and patterned with NIntendo to make it possible.

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong & Mike Dirnt Played As ‘The Coverups’ Again

Billie, Mike, and Tre share stories of performing in small clubs on their way up with surprise strippers and how they made it to top in this EXCLUSIVE Lounge Press Conference

Green Day one of the biggest bands in the world, Rock & Roll Hall of Famers who played Wrigley Field last year, are still able throw a good curve ball. GD’s Billie Joe Armstong and Mike Dirnt along with touring guitarist Jason white, audio engineer Chris Dugan and tour manager Bill Schneider to create a cover-band so appropriately billed as the Coverups. The not-so-cover band played this week at the small venue, Thee Parkside in San Francisco this week. It’s something else to see such accomplished musicians play their favorite songs by their favorite bands. Here some posts from the lucky few that got to see it. Green Day did this last year at a tiny bar in Albany, New York back in January. The show never advertised anything about Green Day, how neat is that?!
