The video’s fairly ridiculous, but the end result is magnificent: A D.I.Y, scaled-up, mega-sized version of McDonald’s hash browns.

Fashion trends are confusing. Or not. Presenting the “Black Distressed Bum Rip High Waisted Skinny Jean” from PrettyLittleThing:
And they come in blue jeans, too!
The Supreme Court lifted a federal ban on sports betting across the country today. The 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act made sports betting illegal everywhere other than Nevada; because, of course, Nevada.
With this ruling, Illinois is getting ready to go all-in. A proposal in Springfield would allow betting across the board, with taxes adding just short of 100 million to the state’s coffers.
And if you happen to be a parent, little league suddenly got real interesting.
Famous “Superman” actress Margot Kidder died at her home in Montana at the age of 69. She has a long list of IMDB credits, but she’ll always be best-known as Lois Lane in four Superman movies.
It’s finally festival time. This is what I love most about Chicago. It doesn’t matter what weekend in the summer it is there are always street festivals, church festivals and block parties.

It’s rare that the government pays YOU. But in the case of iCash, it is totally true.
If you’ve never heard of it, the Illinois State Treasurer has an Unclaimed Property division. Somehow money gets lost. Consider this the lost and found for cash until someone comes around to claim it. What kinds of things are considered unclaimed property?
“Common types of unclaimed property include: checking and savings accounts, uncashed wage and payroll checks, uncashed stock dividends and stock certificates, insurance payments, utility deposits, customer deposits, accounts payable, credit balances, refund checks, money orders, traveler’s checks, mineral proceeds, court deposits, uncashed death benefit checks and life insurance proceeds. Unclaimed property does not include real estate or vehicles.”
In my case, I had two unclaimed properties. One was an iPass from one of my old cars that I thought I had closed out — nope. The second? A double payment to a credit card that I had closed out years ago. In total, it was like… $300.
All I had to do was fill out an online form, which included some personal identifiers to make sure someone wasn’t scamming them.. And I’m not kidding, in less than fifteen minutes, iCash confirmed they would send me a check in the mail. No paper forms to fill out or mail. It was that easy.
Apparently, in the past the system was — not so slick. But modernization of the program has taken away most of the headaches.
So, you should go look to see if you or someone you know has free money out there. I’m glad I did. Now I have beer money. — [eric]
You guys… This is real!! This in not in a movie!! The future is almost here!! -wALT
Sad news today from England, as the BBC reports Frightened Rabbit singer/guitarist Scott Hutchison’s body has been found after he was reported missing on Wednesday. He was 36. You can read the full story from BBC here.

Hutchison formed Frightened Rabbit with his brother Grant on drums, and they went on to release five albums while touring the world. Their extensive live shows included a grand set at Lollapalooza in 2016.
Walt spoke with Scott and Grant from FR backstage at Lolla about the “Scottish temperament” in their music, how they wrote an album while they were in different parts of the world and much more. You can watch the entire interview below.
101WKQX sends condolences and love to Frightened Rabbit as well as Scott’s friends and family during this challenging time.

A “concerned resident” brought in what was thought to be a stray puppy to the Bartlett Police Department. As the PD says, he was “quite the attraction.”
As we get ready to celebrate mom, here are some songs perfect for the occasion:
Smashing Pumpkins “For Martha”
Danzig “Mother”
CHVRCHES “The Mother We Share”
Mr. T “Treat Your Mother Right”
Fountains of Wayne “Stacy’s Mom”
Sufjan Stevens “Decatur, or Round of Applause For Your Stepmother!”
Tracy Bonham “Mother Mother”
Good Charlotte “Thank You Mom”
Apparently we here in Chicago weren’t the only thirsty ones last year. Although we COULD use some drinking improvements, the country as a whole drank almost seven BILLION gallons of beer in 2017, according to a new report.
But who drank the most? The answer is… New Hampshire, at 40.6 gallons per capita. That means 40.6 gallons for every person, or roughly 433 12-ounce cans or bottles of beer. That’s more than eight beers a week.
Looking at things from the perspective of total gallons of beer consumed, the data largely mirrors population ranks. So Illinois came in fifth. C’MON ILLINOIS! We can do better!
Some of the other top 10 states that drank the most per capita are: Our Neighbors to the North, Wisconsin… Montana… North Dakota… South Dakota .
And the 10 states that drank the least beer per capita are: Utah… Connecticut… Maryland… Oh, who really cares about the rest.

EW reported today that Adult Swim has ordered 70 new episodes of the madcap animated adventure which has grown to become one of the most talked about TV shows in years. This will bring the inter-dimensional outer-space family dysfunction of Rick Sanchez up to 101 episodes. There is no time frame for when the show will return to the air but the recently completed third season was a booming success and created instant anticipation for more of the standout series.
