Pearl Jam’s set to return to Wrigley Field tonight (rain, rain, go away). After a lengthy Cubs lovefest on Saturday, they busted out a cover of David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel”:
Two finger kiss to the sky, the bicep bump and then fire down the line… that sums up Sister Mary Jo Sobieck of Marian Catholic High School’s first pitch before Saturday’s White Sox game.
Renteria tried to sign her on the spot. The White Sox called the pitch, “One of the most impressive first pitches of all time.”

Roanoke, Virginia — is not too terribly different than most of Chicago, it seems.
This east coast city is not immune from the problem of irresponsible dog owners who don’t pick up their furry friend’s — deposits.
Now, for whatever reason, it is a photocopied face of Nicolas Cage that is being planted in the careless turds to help bring attention to the issue.
Is it because Nic Cage is a terrible actor? OR….could it be that Nic Cage is GOOD at being a terrible actor? We may never know. — [eric]

This chunky cat named Bruno has gone viral this past week in a big way. His online call for adoption submission showed off his particular or ‘extra’ he is and that he will not just accept being adopted by anyone. He’s currently the hefty pride of Morto Grove’s Wright Way Rescue and his humorous post about being “TOO COOL TO BE HOMELESS” has been shared online over 23,000 times this week. You can read it here:

Yes, he is sitting up right and he’s 25 POUNDS. Maybe that’s the ‘extra’ part?
Songs and videos have been submitted from all over the country and the world to hopefully lure this high maintenance feline into a loving home.
Who needs 9 foot long denim jeans?! Who!? Why do these need to even be made?
What would one be trying to prove when wearing these monstrous denim deformities? Well, Youtuber Safiya Nygaard took on the challenge of wearing 9 foot long jeans for a day. The daddy-long leg pants proved to pretty difficult to wear and pretty hilarious in this video which has raked in 3.3 million views in the last few days.

With a unprecedented construction boom occurring downtown, six new residential towers will soon rank among the city’s 13 tallest buildings and really fill out our beautiful skyline.
This amazing rendering by Remie Geoffroi lets us see what the future will bring, literally. (Posted with permission from the artist and Chicago Magazine.)

As Chicago braces for two Pearl Jam shows at Wrigley, with after-market ticket prices reaching levels only the hyper-affluent can afford, it’s fun to take a look back at their early days. The first time they played Chicago was at Cabaret Metro: July 21, 1991.
They were on the bottom of the bill, underneath Minneapolis bands Soul Asylum and the Jayhawks. Some websites list the bill as Naked Raygun, Urge Overkill, Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, Soul Asylum and the Jayhawks. In truth, the other three bands played on different nights that weekend, but all those shows were part of Cabaret Metro’s 9th anniversary.
The setlist:
Wash
Once
Even Flow
State of Love and Trust
Alive
Why Go
Porch
The handwritten setlist from the night also included Deep and Jeremy, which were both scratched.
