I have a friend who was live and in person at Fyre Festival.
He wasn’t one of those millennials that dropped a bunch of cash on a promise undelivered. Instead, he was there to provide one of the many basic services needed at a music fest. And with two documentary films being dropped this week detailing the compounded missteps that led to the “see-and-be-seen” luxury musical festival spectacularly failing, I knew I had to share his stories as well.
He still can’t talk about it.
His employer, he reports, is still involved in legal proceedings. As such, my friend is holding to a promise to not disclose any of his first-hand knowledge of the things that went down. Which is too bad, because I’ve heard the stories off the record…..

There is still plenty for you to digest yourself in competing documentaries released this week — which themselves have a bit of controversy spinning around them. There’s “Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened” on Netflix, which has been questioned for being produced by the same social-media firm originally hired to promote Fyre Festival. Conversely, Hulu has “Fyre Fraud,” in which the makers reportedly paid the now-convicted co-founder Billy McFarland a reported sum of $250,000 to be interviewed for it. More on both of those stories in this write up from the Washington Post.
The question of the weekend is which of these is worth your time. My answer is both.
The Netflix documentary comes at the Fyre Festival story as a chronicle of what happened and includes plenty of juicy interviews with those closest to the inner workings. And while the Hulu documentary’s inclusion of McFarland brings little more than a bunch of edited cuts of how awkward it was for him to be called to the carpet — the discussion of how social media can drive and shape our reality in the 21st century gives you sense of why something like this could happen.
Binge each of them. It’s worth an afternoon. — [eric]
Kris Bryant explaining how playing in St. Louis is terrible. 😂 pic.twitter.com/qYM1mZJfZZ
— Cubs Live (@Cubs_Live) January 19, 2019
Cubs star Kris Bryan started a whole thing this week when he trash-talked St. Louis during an on-stage conversation with fellow Cubbie Ryan Dempster.
“Who would want to play in St. Louis? Boring. So boring,” Bryant said when talking about rapper Nelly trying to get his baseball bud Bryce Harper to join the Cardinals. “I always get asked, ‘Where would you like to play? Where would you not like to play?’ St. Louis is on the list of places I don’t like to play. It is rough.”
Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina took exception the diss of his teams town on his Instagram, calling out both Bryant and Dempster.
Altpress and Hypebeast reported this week that Facebook is working adding a new feature that could turn some heads: a feed just for memes.
The new features recent additions like voice messages in the FB messanger app, Lip Sync Live, and chat rooms for groups. This new one focuses on all those pics with imposed captions on them that all your high school friend you have not talked to in 10 years, think are very funny. Possibly there are some ‘dank memes’ you find to be funny or just dank, well FB notices this and is going to double down.
“We are running a small scale test and the concept is in the early stages right now,” a Facebook spokesperson stated.
The one thing that may have FB users rushing to press the laughing face emoji is the name of this possible new feed: ‘LOL’.
Yes, just LOL.
The news dropped earlier this week and it had Ghostbusters fans spilling their HiC Ecto Cooler all over themselves.
Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman who directed the 80’s original., has worked on the script and will direct this movie which is set to be a direct sequel to the first film and ‘Ghostbuster 2’. It’s currently slated by Sony to be released in the summer of 2020. The world got their first taste with a minute long teaser that showed the familiar Ghostbusters car ‘Ecto-1’ shelved away in a barn in a creepy rural setting.
Not much else is known, but Collider Movie Talk says the script is ready to go and the movie could be in production soon. They also noted that Second City alum Dan Akroyd who co-wrote and starred in the original film, committed to the new adventure in November in an interview with Dan Rather.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jason Reitman clarified this is a sequel and does not seem to play into the divisive 2016 all-female casted reboot which featured actors from the first films not reprising their original roles. “I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans,” Reitman says. “This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”
Nerdist News digged into the teaser with some possible hidden details in the teaser which could tell us somethings about the upcoming film.
This NSFW comedy sketch plays up the Foos sense of humor on the grid iron. This fun playful comedy short from the Foo Fighters sees Dave Grohl and company goof around as faux players to promote their upcoming live streaming show the night before the Super Bowl in Atlatna.
Um, Dave, I don’t know if it’s ‘appropriate’ to draw that on a football.

Get your tickets to see John Cusack at the Genesee Theater February 10th!
This Chicago man uses the CTA heaters to keep his pizza warm. A great way to have a hot fresh bite in Chicago’s winter.
Will say though, that the box NEEDS to be closed. Don’t want the rest of the pizza to get cold, rookie mistake.

Chris Cornell, you will never be forgotten. <3
The KQX Morning Crew with Brian, Ali, and Justin.
Everyone has that one movie that you weren’t supposed to watch but did anyway as a child and now you are traumatized for life.
What movies traumatized you? It may be one that wasn’t even a horror movie!
Ali said how the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory traumatized her and Justin said the Titanic did it for him, so it doesn’t have to be a horror movie.
But it still can be! Brian said the shinning, here are some responses we got on the text line:
We had so many responses, but we still want to know yours!
The KQX Morning Crew with Brian, Ali, and Justin.
On Tuesday, the video platform YouTube issued an update that prohibits prank or challenge videos that could lead to death or serious physical injury.
This is because of the growing amount of challenges that have been posted, like the Tide Pod challenge, where people were eating the detergent pods or the ‘fire challenge’, which is when someone is shown setting themselves on FIRE.
The revised policy also comes after the Bird Box Challenge went viral. A trend that resulted in people performing tasks while wearing a blindfold.
In the updated guidelines they stated, “Challenges that present an apparent risk of death are not allowed on YouTube” The ban also extends to pranks that “lead victims to believe they are in physical danger or that can cause real physical harm.”
Netflix even tried ushering out a warning to stop people from doing the Bird Box challenge:
Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.
— Netflix US (@netflix) January 2, 2019
YouTube has said that violations to the ban will result in a “community strike” against the channel. Accounts who receive three strikes in 90 days will be terminated under this new policy.
Over the next two months, any videos that violate YouTube’s community guidelines will be removed and will not receive a strike if the content has been posted prior to the policy update.
This is nothing short of brilliant…
This is one of those stories where it’s best to report the facts and leave the snickering and double entendre up to you.
We just got word of a guy who was busted at the Berlin airport for trying to smuggle a boa constrictor onto his flight to Israel. Security assumed something was suspicious when, according to the press release, “the employees noticed that he carried something in his pants that did not belong there.”
The snake’s going to be okay; it was brought to a rescue center in Brandenburg. The guy who put the snake in his pants is facing a fine.
