According to their website, rent for a one-bedroom unit at Centrum Bucktown is over $2,300 a month.
“With what we’re paying, we expect to have heat in the winter and AC in the summer,” one of resident told Block Club Chicago.
Residents first dealt with temperature issues in January. During the Polar Vortex, the complex\’s heaters broke – leaving many of the resident\’s apartments barely above freezing.
Then, while the heatwave came in last week, the cooling system wasn\’t working. One of the tenants, Caitlin Schwind, talked about how she first noticed the thermostat errors way back in April. She submitted a maintenance requests then, and has since sent several more requests and emails to the management company, 33Realty.
When last week\’s soaring temperatures appeared to make her dog sick, Schwind made an emergency vet visit and checked into a \”dog-friendly bed-and-breakfast.\”
She also submitted her 6th maintenance request then, and someone was finally sent to fix the AC the next day. The company has refused to reimburse her for the veterinary and hotel costs, but offered to pro-rate her rent for the days she was unable to live there.
Netflix has been known for it’s binge practice of giving you an entire season of a show at once so you could devour it in a day or two. This may change as ComicBook reports this week, the streaming giant will be release the competition series The Great British Baking Show in weekly episodes similar to a cable TV show. Another competition show that focuses on hip-hop music, Rhythm + Flow will also be presented in a similar weekly fashion.
Complex also ran the story with Netflix responding on Twitter with some clarification. It’s not clear if this is just Netflix “trying something new” or a simple experiment to protect a game show’s results from getting out too early.
There has already been wild speculation that this recent move is a response to Disney who are launching their massive streaming service Disney+ latet this year with a weekly release format of several big name series including ‘High School Musical’.
the weekly release of licensed titles (like Great British Baking Show) isn't new and in hopes of keeping Rhythm + Flow's winner a surprise, we're trying something new! but not happening with more shows than that

Don’t thumb wrestle this guy, you might lose an eye.
There’s a 20-year-old college student named Jacob Pina from Westport, Massachusetts. He recently posted some videos on the social network TikTok showing his insane FIVE-INCH THUMB. It’s hard to describe just how GIANT it looks.
He says he’s not sure why his thumb grew so long, and his other one is normal-sized . . . but now that he’s shared his giant thumb with the world, he’s becoming a viral sensation. (Dazed Digital)

It has been known for a while now that Instagram is testing in seven countries including Canada, removing like counts from posts for users on their platform but apparently their parent company Facebook could be possibly be bringing the new initiative there as well. The testing on Instagram allows for the user to see their own total likes on a post, but it is hidden from their followers. AltPress turned us onto this whole story and we like them without having to click on anything.
Tech expert Jane Manchun Wong discovered the simple yet big change to the social media platform and tweeted it out. Tech Crucnh later reported that Facebook confirmed it was indeed looking into it, but that it was not live for all users.
Facebook is working to hide like counts, too!https://t.co/WnUrM12aZg

The CTA is a big part of the lives of many Chicagoans who ride the eight official color-designated train lines into the Loop, but did you know there is an unofficial ninth train line? MetroBlog reported this week on the line nicknamed ‘Brownage’ and detailed how it is a combination of the Orange line coming up from Midway Airport and the Brown line coming in from Kimball. The line was created at some point after 2008 after the Brown line had many of it’s station expanded to meet a growth in ridership, but the Kimball rail yard had no capacity to meet continued demand. The Midway railyard was then utilized to add more trains for Brown line service while also getting in trips downtown in for southsiders.
The line is known operationally but it’s not really acknowledged as it’s own line publicly. The special Orange into Brown trains runs 6 times each week day and are noted on the schedule with a ‘K’. They switch into Brown lines and then exit the Loop out to Kimball with Brown line signage.
Taco Bell is making a few changes this fall and shedding a few items off the menu.
Starting September 12th say goodbye to these nine items:
They said the big move is to declutter the menu and make room for some new combo options. Plus they believe it will help the decision-making process at the register.
Let’s see if it actually helps though… What are you sad to see go?
Match.com has released its annual Singles in America survey.
They polled 5,000 people across the country about the average cost of a date night. The figures are supposed to represent how much a bottle of wine, dinner for two, and two tickets to the movies cost.
Unsurprisingly New York is the most expensive was a date costing $297.27, but what about Illinois?
The answer: $157.96.
Not the best, but we all can’t have the lowest costs like South Dakota of $38.27.

Zao is an app that went viral in a really creepy way over the weekend, because let’s people insert their face into memorable movie footage. It is disturbing to many, but certainly intriguing to say the least. The video above showed how powerful the Chinese developed ‘deep fake’ app is with just a thumbnail image and 8 sec turnover. It’s become one of the most popular apps in the deep faking trend.
Here are some more examples of what the app can do.

Guitarist/singer Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool have been hustling to get they are today at the ‘stadium level’ shared by top tier bands like Foo Fighters and Coldplay, with enduring focus to political activism, emotional truth, and constant dedication delivering on being so much more ‘just another punk band’.
