A famous clothing designer has hit back at the Nirvana estate of the use of a famed logo. More on that in a moment.
But first, Francis Bean Cobain has made her “Kurt Was Here” clothing line available across ALL Urban Outfitters this weekend, making the six t-shirt collection more accessible than ever. You can check out the designs below:
It premiered during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and has racked a lot of attention online. E.T the Extraterrestrial who won our collective hearts in the 80’s sci-fi adventure film was reunited with an adult Elliot in a longoform commercial for Comcast Xfinity.
Some fans have been critical of the ad while others find it to be sweet nostalgia for the Christmas season. What do you think?
If you think this is bad, it’s not nearly as bad the awful Atari video game which was a huge bomb when it was released. It’s grown to become it’s own legend when thousands of game cartridges were buried in the dessert.WIRED documented the excavation in 2014 was pretty entertaining.
Would signing a non-disclosure agreement keep you from going to a show? ‘Saturday Night Live’ comedy star Pete Davidson and his team started issuing the NDA’s with a $1 million fine if broken to those attending shows on his current stand up comedy tour. The actual document made it’s way online this week for a show in San Francisco, but Consequence of Sound reports Davidson has employed the policy since his November 7th show in Minnesota. According to posts on social media, the agreement states “shall not give any interviews, offer any opinions or critiques, or otherwise participate by any means or in any form whatsoever (including but not limited to blogs, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, or any other social networking or other websites whether now existing or hereafter created) in the disclosure of any Confidential information…” .
This is an odd policy, but similar moves have been made by other popular comedians to protect their material from leaking online before they can bring their show to another city or film it for a special. A few year ago at Chicago’s Thalia Hall, Dave Chapelle utilized the growing tech of Yondr pouches to keep fans off their phones during show, preventing the show from being bootlegged.
As a comedian, I completely understand some comics feeling this is necessary to protect their material and keep it sacred in the digital age. Now I am not performing on the same scale as Davidson, but when your jokes are distributed out there without your permission, it can inhibit how you can continue to development that joke which may not be in it’s final form when you see in a shake cell phone filmed video.
News of the upcoming demise of the Simpsons have been greatly exaggerated. The rumor started recently when the show’s well-known music composer Danny Elfman said in a recent interview he believed the beloved animated series would be ending soon after more than 30 years on the air. Well, that story is dead following a tweet from showrunner Al Jean.
While you are here check out Watch Mojo’s list of the best episodes of the Simpsons. I don’t know if I agree with all of them but number 1 is not a bad choice.
New York City’s Thanksgiving Day parade is a cherished tradition with the holiday just like arguing with your relatives about politics and lying to your grandmother about her cooking being good. It draws millions of people to downtown area of America’s biggest city with even bigger character ballons featured in the parade, which delight children who can see their favorites in a massive way. In 1997, it was a different story with a failure that is hilarious for sheer scale of disastrous it was.
The New York Times reported that day on the windy conditions and challenges faced by the huge character balloons.
“At times, the balloons were not gliding but instead were careering as their handlers on the ground struggled to keep control in winds that reached as high as 43 miles an hour. For a while, the balloons seemed to be falling like flies. Barney suffered extensive damage and had to be removed at 51st Street. The Pink Panther succumbed at 42d Street. Quik Bunny and the Cat in the Hat limped away at 36th Street.”
That’s the most annoying yet beloved purple dinosaur in TV history got ripped open, deflated, and stomped out by the NYPD in front of millions of people. Barney the Dinosar’s humongous balloon got ripped open with soaring winds and in the raw uncut video above you can see over the course of a few minutes the friendly dinosaur gets flattened out on the street. You can hear the person filming say “this is going to give kids nightmares.”
Esquire did a detail report about the balloon problems that year during the NYC parade and how one women was injured in a similar accident during the same parade with a different balloon. You can read that here.
Tones & I is the stage name of a person, not a band name in case you weren’t aware. That person is an Australian named Toni Watson, whose unique voice on “Dance, Monkey” has been climbing the charts around the world. I came across this stripped down version of the song — just a musician and her piano and was pretty amazed. Kudos to her for sharing — and kudos to the camera person on this, who is still probably dizzy to this day. —- [eric]
A 17-year old kid was plucked from a crowd at the Killers recent headlining set at the Riptide festival in Florida, and when Brandon Flowers put him behind the drum kit on the song “For Reasons Unknown”, he absolutely killed it. His name is Jayson Verebay and he was clearly feeling overwhelmed by this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
“As I was coming up there, my heart was pounding and I was actually shaking,” Verebay told Rolling Stone right after The Killers’ set, which closed night one of this year’s Riptide Fest. “It was the most mind-boggling experience ever.”
The KIllers will drop their new album “Imploding the Mirage,” in the spring.
The biggest time suck in board game history has just been reimagined as an EVEN LONGER game. Monopoly LONGEST Game Ever is now available on Amazon. The only way to win is to purchase every property on the board… and there are now 66 total. Ruin Thanksgiving by buying the game here.
All the so-called “Arrowverse” shows (Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, etc.) are set to collide with past DC Comics TV and film properties in a massive TV crossover named after iconic comic book event “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” The latest promo shows (among other moments) former movie Superman Brandon Routh as the comics’ “Kingdom Come” Superman. “Crisis” starts on December 8.
Horror movies are hard to come by during the holiday season, as the big studios push out their family-friendly features and Oscar baiting, critical favorites. Thank goodness for indie horror, as “Murdershow” is set to remind us that the Dark Web can be a terrifying place.
Looks like the trailer’s been circulating for a couple years. Not sure if that’s a strike against the movie or not…
Google Trends is tracking the most-searched side dishes in each state. In California and Michigan, it’s macaroni and cheese. Here in Illinois, along with Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, it’s all about stuffing. Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and the Carolinas are seeking out dressing. Up to our north, Wisconsin is Googling sweet potatoes with marshmallows. Texas needs some detail on fruit salad. Tennessee has a hankering for creamed corn and North Dakota is searching for… keto soup.
So you may have seen a poster floating around this weekend with ‘leaked’ tour dates for the reunited Rage Against the Machine in 2020 including Chicago’s Riot Fest. well it looks it was all fake. AltPress reports through multiple sources that the poster was put together by an unnamed ‘troll’ in Australia. It’s just too easy to play with music fans emotions and get something like this to go viral. No need to share it here as it’s not legit.
The band and the festivals around the world have not acknowledged the fake poster. RATM did confirm the following shows in an official Insagram post which includes in the Coachella festival.

We can argue all we want about the merits of Die Hard being a holiday movie, but there is no denying that National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation IS. And soon, you will be able enjoy it on the big screen.
So gather your gang for THAT — or you can choose to stop by a pop-up bar in Wrigleyville. Houndstooth’s Saloon has transformed itself into Griswold’s for the holidays & there’s a Cousin Eddie RV and hundreds of lights to welcome you out front. Once inside, you can warm up by the burnt Christmas tree with movie-themed drinks and food. — [eric]
