In 2020, plenty of albums coming to grace your ears.

Some people may be looking forward to the Summer Olympics, Maverick taking flight at age 57, new PlayStation and XBox consoles, or even an extra day in February — but I know plenty who are looking forward to metric ton of new music in 2020.  Here are just some of the things in the pipeline:

Foo Fighters – “TBD”

The 10th studio album from Dave Grohl & company is in the works — we know this because your Fighters of Foo posted some snippets to their Instagram account this week.  No title or release date at this point, but we’ll keep an eye on it.

Green Day – Father Of All…

Two things to look forward to from Green Day — The Hella Mega Tour in the summer, but much sooner — Father Of All…  It looks like the band shared the back cover of the album with a fan club member, complete with track listing.  We’ll find out for sure on February 7th.

The Killers – Imploding The Mirage

It is clear that white boards play a part in the recording process for the band from Las Vegas — they’ve been sharing scribbled working titles for their songs.  Their hometown has also been a constant in inspiring their inspiration of lyrics, song titles, and albums.  Studio album #6 is no exception — release date TBD.

Weezer – Van Weezer

When invoking the name of Van Halen, you best come heavy with the ax.  Rivers Cuomo said in an interview the band most definitely will with their fourteenth release, coming April 26th: “Last album we didn’t have any guitars, this one is just all guitars. A hundred guitars,” says Cuomo.  And as we all know, Rivers is never sarcastic 😉

Tame Impala – The Slow Rush

After releasing singles “Patience” & “Borderline,” it seems fans needed a little bit of the former with no more music or details released last yera — but  Kevin Parker of Tame Impala admitted the band got a bit delayed in the completion of their next album.  We will see the final product on Valentine’s Day 2020 — and you can see the band later than summer at the United Center.

Yungblud –  “TBD”

While we don’t have a title or release date, the subject matter of Yungblud’s second album is quite decided.  He says, “It’s kind of a nod to [David] Bowie, and it’s stories about young people.”  Specifically, a real-life encounter with a transgender fan made him think of “Life On Mars,” which then inspired some music.

The 1975 – Notes on a Conditional Form

Prior to hitting the stage at The Nights We Stole Christmas, we got a taste of the bands fourth studio album with the single, “People.”  There are twenty-one additional songs coming our way on the 21st of February.  Matty Healy says this new record is a bit emo: “I’m an active emo man I suppose I’d call myself…I think that bands when they get to a stage that maybe we’re in they wanna kind of graduate into being like a massive rock band whereas we wanna graduate like into being a small emo band, if you know what I mean.”

The Strokes – “TBA”

We haven’t seen new music from The Strokes since 2013, but after they showed up in Chicago at last year’s Lollapalooza — it was only a matter of time.  During a New Year’s performance in Brooklyn, the group confirmed a new album on the way — and gave us a preview of the new song, “Ode To The Mets.”

Watch the awful Ninja Turtles rock musical

In the 90s, the Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles were a pop culture phenom that consumed every kid with cartoons and toys, but this oddly crafted live ‘music’ tour of the pizza-craving reptiles performing for kids in theaters. It had a huge tie-in with a national pizza chain, a media marketing blitz on talk shows including Oprah, and more silliness to get the show attention. It does not leave you wanting to see this band come back to town. Turtle Den, a fan account broke it all down in the video above.

Screen Junkies roasted the whole thing with their ‘Honest Trailers’ series.

Here is even a deeper dive into WHY, oh why did this thing get made by SuperHero Rewind.

Why do we love imperfect physical media like vinyl & VHS tapes?

It’s somewhat notable to see in movies, TV shows, and web videos an artistic lean to imperfections. VHS flickers edited into the latest music videos that were likely shot in high definition. There is this recent artistic widespread expression in a lot of art. The faults on the surface of vinyl records are now the things that give them character.

Youtube channel Polyphonic covered this in a well crafted visually beautiful look at why we are drawn back to physical media and it’s faults.

Wrong time for a selfie

Some Detroit firefighters were fighting a fire at a house on New Year’s eve when they decided that maybe this is the perfect time to take a group photo.

Now we’re all about our emergency service workers here, but maybe wait for the fire to be out before taking the big group photo.

I mean, they do look pretty cool with the burning house in the background…

Hopefully they checked to make sure no one was still in the house first.

Horse and Buggy DUI raises a lot of eyebrows.

First impressions are everything in this world, unfortunately for these four young men they did not get the pretty genes.

Well now they also have a criminal record, so at least they have the bad boy thing going for them.

The four underage men were arrested on charges of DUI while driving a horse and buggy around Michigan.

To be fair, if you only heard that some people were drunk driving a horse and buggy around these guys would probably be exactly what you imagined they looked like.

Also, don’t they kind of look like Shrek characters? Checking IMDB right now, stay tuned for any updates on their possible Hollywood careers.

Surviving members of Nirvana playing a benefit show

The surviving members of Nirvana will perform this weekend at a charity event in Los Angeles. Dave Grohl, Kris Novaselic, and Pat Smear will perform at the “Heaven is Rock & Roll Gala” at the Palladium. They will be joined by Beck, St. Vincent, and Grohl’s daughter Violet. The event will also feature Marilyn Manson, L7, and the best band out of Rockford, Cheap Trick.

The Nirvana family played a while back in 2018 at the Foo Fighter’s Cal Jam festival. They also had guest singers when they performed for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Joan Jett, Lorde, and St. Vincent all providing vocals.

Wait, you’re not a real maid!

The birds and the bees talk is tough for every parent, that’s why Hilton’s Double Tree hotels are now offering free sexual education events for kids in their hotels!

No, that’s not true, but it was for these unlucky parents who just wanted to take a nice family vacation.

That’s right, a gosh darn swingers convention was happening at their hotel!

Obviously, this was not ideal for the parents, but in the long run it does save them an awkward conversation.

So, you’re welcome parents.

Solo street guitarists starts a party at the Lake street Red Line station after Lollapalooza

This will be the Lollapalooza headliner’s first new album since 2013. The Julian Casablanca led outfit played a new song last night at the Brooklyn holiday gig. Watch My Chemical Romance reunion show: Fan-produced video of the full show

One of the biggest bands of a generation reunited for a lucky few thousands at the Shrine Expo in Los Angeles on December 20th when My Chemical Romance made their anticipated return, with so many fans not able to get tickets a lot of footage made it’s way online. This fan-produced muli-cam video was put together by YouTuber Jayzeus Hayes who culled together footage from dozens of fans who attended the show. The result is something that is pretty remarkable, even though it does not play like a fully shot TV production but rather an endearing passionate collage of this epic show. Yes, it’s the entire show with Gerard Way and company setting the tone for many more shows we are all anticipating. Thank you to AltPress for bringing this to our attention.

Consequence of Sound reported MCR are going to play the Coachella festival in California this spring along with the recently reunited Rage Against the Machine. MCR has been confirmed for several European festival dates, so when can we expect to see them in Chicago?

Man demands refund after family shares hotel with NYE swingers’ party.

A father booked his family of four into a Sacramento hotel for New Year’s Eve.  So did a swinger’s convention.  Now he wants his money back.

The man says he didn’t care that the group planned to ring in 2020 with a party complete with play suite and dungeon room — but is pissed that he wasn’t notified about the party in advance and that he was denied a refund when he complained.

“People that are spending good money to stay at the Hilton should be aware of what’s going on under their nose, especially if they have families,” he said. “And, you know, there’s a hot tub there and there’s crazies in the hot tub,” the father said in the article.

Dogs can count… so stop being so miserly with the treats

Dogs are our buddies. They’re dependable. They make us feel like we’re the most important person on earth when we come home. And, they share something important with us humans… they can count.

A new study out of Emory University says dogs share a common neural mechanism that “allows their brain to process numbers of objects as humans do.” In essence, they can tell if you’re giving them more or fewer treats.

If you want to get into the weeds with the science of the study and learn more about the parietotemporal cortex, click here.
