Brookfield Zoo offers ‘animal chats’ on Facebook Live

Brookfield Zoo started “Bringing the Zoo to You” Facebook Live chats yesterday. As it stands, they plan to air these chats at 11 a.m. every weekday. They’re designed for an all-ages, even young, audience, but who wouldn’t enjoy learning about animals like Sandy the binturong?

Bringing The Zoo To You: Binturongs & Prehensile Tails

Welcome to our first Bring The Zoo To You live chat. We're here today with Sandy the binturong and animal care specialist Maggie. They're going to teach you all about prehensile tails, which animals have them, and what they can do. Due to limited staff we may not be able to answer all of your questions during the chat but will try to provide answers afterward. Join us every weekday at 11:00 a.m. Central for a new chat featuring another Brookfield Zoo animal

Watch YungBlud’s ridiculous talks show & live performance

God bless Yungblud. The brash playful English rock dude took over a studio with a mixed of silly talk show, live music performance, and fun like having fellow alt weirdo Oliver Tree do a cooking segment. If we are all locked in, we need more irreverent fun like this where everyone cuts loose and tries something unique like this.

Watch our LOUNGE session with YB and yes, he did this with a broken foot,

Parking tickets and debt collection to stop in Chicago

Good news if you are like me with a couple two, tree tickets looming overhead at the moment.

(speaking of, I am still wondering if you can even get two tickets for the same thing in less than 24 hours…)

From Block Club Chi:

“all booting will stop, late fees on defaulted payments on city debts will be paused and no interest will be accrued. The city will also limit ticketing, towing and impounding and focus its efforts on public safety-related issues.

As part of the program, city utility bills will not be due until May 1.

“One of the most important things we can do is keep people economically solvent,” Lightfoot said.

The city will work with the private company that owns Chicago’s meters to ensure ticketing only occurs if there’s something that poses a safety threat. An expired meter at a car that is otherwise legally parked will not result in a ticket, Lightfoot said.

But people won’t be able to leave their cars on the street, Lightfoot said: That will still result in them being declared abandoned and towed.

Bills will come due eventually, Lightfoot said, though the program could be extended past April 30 if needed.”

Beautiful video of neighbors in Roscoe Village singing together

This is awesome! After seeing all of these videos of people singing in Italy, it’s nice to finally see some Chicagoans come together!

These neighbors in Roscoe Village decided to sing together, practicing social distancing of course, and it turned out amazing!

Sweet Home Chicago.

How to wipe with two squares of toilet paper

In these trying times, there is a toilet paper crisis.

Mostly because people are stupid. But still, it’s hard to find that sweet sweet toilet paper.

So conservation is key right now. Here is a little graphic on how you could cut down on TP by wiping with only two squares!

For a step by step explanation on this method, check out Newfa’s article here.

Jared Leto didn’t know about COVID-19 because he was meditating in a desert

Jared Leto came home from a 12-day silent meditation retreat in the desert and found out that we are in a global pandemic.

That is not very zen now, is it?

Hot take, maybe he should go back… and just stay there forever.

The fact that he went on a silent meditation retreat in the middle of nowhere for what I can only assume cost approximately 3 of my annual salaries combined makes me feel all of the anger of the world.

Well, welcome to the thunder-dome baby! You’re back in my world Jared Leto!

Ok, at least he told people to stay inside… that was pretty cool of him.

Marble racing is the future of sports

Sports not being played is a nightmare for a lot of us.

What else are we supposed to scream at our TV for? What to we gamble on!?!

That’s where marble racing comes in to save us all.

ELECTRIC!

Will this last after sports come back? No, pretty guaranteed it won’t.

But for now… Sport of the future!!!

‘Black Widow’ shelved

The first major Marvel movie of the year, “Black Widow,” has been pulled from the schedule. It was set for release on May 1, but COVID-19 concerns (and nationwide theater closings) have caused Disney to put the brakes on the film’s release.

Variety reports that while the movie’s budget hasn’t been made public, a typical Marvel flick can run up to 200 million to make. No word on when it will eventually released.

Helpful advice if you find yourself sick

Great info if you find yourself fighting COVID-19:

“Some helpful advice from my mom who is a nurse: Good advice from a nurse if you should get the virus: I know we’re all tired of hearing/talking about it, but one thing I HAVEN’T really seen going around is advice for what happens if you DO get coronavirus (many of us will), we’re only seeing advice for how to try to AVOID it. So as your friendly neighborhood RN, a wee thread: Things you should *actually* buy ahead of time (Erm, not sure what the obsession with toilet paper is?): Kleenex, Acetaminophen (Tylenol) in 325 mg tablets, Ibuprofen (Advil) in 200 mg tablets, Mucinex, Robitussin or DayQuil/NyQuil, whatever your cough medicine of choice is If you don’t have a humidifier, that would also be a good thing to get. (You can also just turn the shower on hot and sit in the bathroom breathing in the steam). Also a good time to make a big batch of your favorite soup to freeze and have on hand. If you have a history of asthma and you have a prescription inhaler, make sure the one you have isn’t expired and refill it/get a new one if it is. You basically just want to prepare as though you know you’re going to get a nasty respiratory bug like bronchitis or pneumonia. You just have the foresight to know it’s coming. For symptom management, use the meds I mentioned. For a fever over 101, alternate Tylenol and Advil so you’re taking a dose of one or the other every 3 hours. Use both cough suppressants and expectorants (most cough meds have both). Drink a ton, hydrate hydrate. Rest lots. If you’re sick, you should not be leaving your house except to go to the doctor, and if you do, wear a mask (regular is fine, you don’t need an N95). You DO NOT NEED TO GO TO THE ER unless you are having trouble breathing or your fever is very high and unmanaged with meds. 90% of healthy adult cases thus far have been managed at home with basic rest/hydration/over-the-counter meds. We don’t want to clog the ERs unless you’re actually in distress. The hospital beds will be used for people who actively need oxygen/breathing treatments/IV fluids If you have a pre-existing lung condition (COPD, emphysema, lung cancer) or are on immunosuppressants, now is a great time to talk to your PCP or specialist about what they would like you to do if you get sick. They might have plans to get you admitted and bypass the ER entirely. One major relief to you parents is that kids do VERY well with coronavirus— they usually bounce back in a few days, no one under 18 has died, and almost no kids have required hospitalization (unless they have a lung disease like CF). Just use pediatric dosing of the same meds. @lil_intravrt”

Stay safe,

<3 Lauren
