The CW’s ‘Batwoman’ loses Ruby Rose

Beyond the Trailer covers why this is happening and what the future of ‘Batwoman’

It debuted last October and joined several other hit DC Universe shows on the CW, but ‘Batwoman’ has lost it’s lead performer heading into Season 2 with  ComingSoon.net   reporting  that Ruby Rose has left the show.  The role will be re-cast for the next season.

Though her tenure was short lived in the role, Rose made history becoming the first lesbian superhero lead and was being primed for a crossover story with another CW superhero series, ‘Superman & Lois’.

Rose issued a statement:

I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season,” Rose said. “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles. I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created. Thank you Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success — I am truly grateful.

The CW, Warner Bros TV, and the producers of the show put out the following joint statement:

The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.

The first season of Batwoman ended early due to the global pandemic forcing filming to shut down before the final two episodes of its 22-episode season could be shot.

In the trailer for Season 1, you might catch some scenes filmed in Chicago including some car chases over the Chicago River in the Loop. Chicago is ‘Gotham City’ right?

Actor Sean Penn joins Mayor Lori Lightfoot to tour new COVID-19 testing sights

Actor Sean Penn joined Mayor Lori Lightfoot in the touring of a brand new testing sight for asymptomatic first responders.

Penn is also the co founder of the Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE), which is responsible for funding six test sights, most of which are located in minority neighborhoods.

He has been working all across the country trying to open test sites in places that lack resources and have been affected the most by the pandemic.

Good guy Sean Penn everybody!!

They were told to make a video of their apartment for their landlord to rent it out… they did not disappoint!

This might be the greatest tour video you’ll ever see.

Would you move here? Honestly doesn’t look like that bad of a place.

Shame their landlord is kicking them out, theses guys seem awesome!

Remembering Chris Cornell

Hard to believe it has been three years since we lost Chris Cornell.  One of the most talented being on this planet.  Almost, otherworldly.  Maybe he is.

I was lucky enough to spend some time with Chris whether on the phone, in person or in the audience watching him do what he was put here to do.

I’d like to share a sit down I had with Chris that was never posted publicly due to mic and sound issues, and hope you will see past that to feel the intimacy and warmth that was in the 101WKQX Studio 7 on October 7, 2015:

And a clip from the night before at the Chicago Theatre:

The first time I spoke with Chris was over the phone in September of 2012 when he called in to chat about Soundgarden coming back after 15 years gone guns blazing with a new album and tour, this is a clip about wanting fans to have the full album experience:

And about Soundgarden’s brand new fans:

this is a clip about how he grateful he is to do what he does:

Chris and Ben Shepherd came through our Underground Lounge at JBTV on Apil 23, 2013 and were kind enough to play some incredible acoustic songs, feel free to download and share. <3

Hundreds rally against stay at home order in Chicago and Springfield

It is a crazy sight to see hundreds of people crowded around one another, let alone none of them are wearing masks.

But that is exactly what hundreds of protestors have begun doing in protest against IL governor JB Pritzker’s continued stay at home order.

It is annoying to have to stay home, and some people are really struggling operating their businesses, and these protestors want the IL governor to know that they have had enough of it.

Hopefully no one get’s sick from these protests, that would look awful for their cause…

Eddie Vedder’s wild stories about Dennis Rodman

Tonight we get even more of the must-see documentary ‘the Last Dance’ which shows off the memorable play of the 90’s Chicago Bulls who had many characters off the court, including the rebounding wild man Dennis Rodman. ‘The Worm’ was known for spending a lot of time off court partying and enjoying life to the fullest. One night in Seattle as the Bulls were practicing before taking on the then-very formidable Sonics the next day, Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder was trying to get the raucous Rodman to calm down and do some relaxing reading, but Rodman was not having it. It was 6pm in Seattel, by 9:30 that night Rodman and Vedder were right off stage at a Jane’s Addiction. show in Las Vegas. You can listen to Vedder tell the whole story during a recent podcast interview with sports wizard Bill Simmons.

Rodman sat down with Genius to get quized about “his” band, Pearl Jam. Damn, Rodman really knows PJ. He even has a Carman Electra / Cypress Hill story in here.

Yankee Stadium drive-in live music festival in the works

In these challenging COVID times, the once-dead ‘drive in’ is making a big comeback with a local example being the McHenry Drive In.The past two weekends they have been turning away people from their once-shuttered drive-in theater. It is a workaround for the many of us that want to get out but still want to maintain social distance, so that same format had to expanded to live entertainment right? In Denmark and Germany, live concerts at drive-ins started in April and now it looks like they could expand to the United States in the parking lot of one of the most popular sports franchises in America, the New York Yankees.

MASC Hospitality, a production company that produces street festivals around the NYC area is reportedly working on the Uptown Drive-In at

the parking lot of Yankees Stadium. Brooklyn Vegan reports the event could possibly be held on weekends in July with carnival-like offerings including raffles, games, food, and of course, live music. This is a “complete drive-in” experience according to a statement from the organizers.

So this raises the question, can we do this in the parking lot near one of our arenas? 35th street party in our vans, maybe?

Many of our favorite Chicago Venues need our help right now!

Brian, Ali and Justin will be LIVE for 34 HOURS on May 21st  from 6AM to May 22nd at 4PM in support of the 34 independent Chicago venues!
