UFC 252: Miocic scores big win, Cormeir suffers eye injury

It was a gnarly and bruising finale for Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic in their third main event UFC bout for a world heavyweight title prize on Saturday with Miocic pulling out the decision victory. The fight’s results appear to be tainted in the eyes of some, and specifically the left eye of Cormeir who was brutally poked in the eye during the fight.

Cormeir appears to have fought his final bout, even with the injury he put on a strong performance. He openly said after the fight during an interview with Joe Rogan that he was not able to see anything out of his injured eye.

AMC Theaters reopening with 15 cent movies & safety precautions

AMC Theaters have been closed since March and are preparing to reopen on August 20 with a huge deal. Internet Today breaks it all down in their latest video above. It’s worth noting we don’t share their exact grim sentiment of the entire situation, but we hope if you do venture out to a movie theater that you follow all of the safety rules and be safe.

To get people back in the seats AMC has announced that when they reopen they will offer “movies in 2020 at 1920 prices.”That’s right when AMC theaters reopen you’ll be able to see a film for only 15 cents! It’s worth noting this will not apply to any new movies but rather classic films.

Not all local AMC locations will open around Chicago on the 20th, with some select locations opening later on September 3rd so make sure you check ahead of time.

Comedian Big Jay Oakerson gets assaulted on stage

Comedian Big Jay Oakerson was assaulted and yanked off stage this week by a heckler who was in the process of getting kicked out of a show. You can see in the video posted by fellow comic Ari Shaffir, that Oakerson took quite the spill at the socially distant comedy show thanks to this [insert acceptable insult here}.. Page Six covered the entire story in detail with the producer of the show, Joel Richardson saying “Jay couldn’t have handled it any better,”.

Jay is a very talented comedian with a loveable flair for the filthy side, but his cigarette-smoking heart is still a heart of gold. He’s visited 101WKQX in the past and has always been an incredibly sweet guy to all of us. He did not deserve this, and frankly, no one deserves this.

As a fan of comedy and comedian myself, hecklers and people who disrupt shows are the thorns in our collective butts. You have to be wildly out of touch with the space you are in, emboldened by too many drinks, or some selfish sense of ‘this needs to be about me’. There will be people with comments that they think to help the show, but if the comic performing does not address for a comment, keep it to yourself. Imagine everyone you see in those ‘I won’t wear a mask’ fight videos floating around, you can lump in that behavior in with these narcissists. Besides this is not even heckling, it goes beyond that into a new darker real of behavior you would expect from a villain in an 80’s teen comedy.

Hopefully, this does not come off as preachy or anything just a reminder to be nicer to one another.

This is not the first time Oakerson has fended off an assailant. Here is a hilarious story he told about his run-in with a senior citizen who forced him to defend himself with a bike.

Backyard gardening problems

I have had quite a season so far with my quarantine backyard garden.  Things took a turn when the neighborhood squirrels discovered my prized tomatoes.  I asked for your advice:

I've got squirrel problems… <3 Lauren O'Neil

Posted by 101 WKQX on Wednesday, August 5, 2020

And quickly put some of your suggestions into practice.  I have since regained control over my produce and coexisting beautifully with my little furry buddies once again.

But one of my favorite tips came in the form of this video, the squirrel ninja obstacle course by Mark Rober (the Package Thief vs. Glitter Bomb Trap guy,) enjoy!

New David Bowie live album released

The Thin White Duke’s massive impact on alternative music is still making waves years after he passed away as this week saw the release of a new live album recorded in 1999. The album was recorded from one of the few performances that Bowie did behind his album ‘Hours’. The show was recorded in France, and according to Consequence of Sound on the same day Bowie was honored with Commandeurs of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, the country’s highest honor for artists.

You can’t play Fortnite on iPhone, and here’s why

Fortnite is easily one of the most popular free-to-play video games. Apple’s iPhone with the associated marketplace is easily one of the biggest combinations of devices and online stores. This week the two sides clashed, with Apple yanking Fortnite off the Apple store when Epic Games, the company behind the game offered direct payments the in-game currency, ‘v-bucks’. These direct payments are noticeably cheaper for users and work around Apple. Google the same move by Apple, and booted Fortnite off its Play store. Epic Games then responded by suing both Apple and Google. In the video above, Internet Today broke down the entire dispute in detail and how the gaming world is responding.

Epic started the hashtag #FreeFortnite campaign and released this short parody video which mocks the classic 1984 ad that Apple made for the release of its home PC, the Macintosh which challenged the market-dominance of IBM at the time.

Some big budget movies return to production

So how do we continue to make entertainment on a grand scale when we are dealing with a worldwide respiratory pandemic?

That’s been a lingering question that has hit Hollywood as the studios behind major TV and film productions work with unions in California on how to move forward, but some big blockbuster has returned to production overseas.  ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ resumed production in England under some very advanced protocols that have completely reorganized everyone from the cast and the crew working on the big-budget movie for Universal. Just to start, the cast is tested three times a week with a doctor on-set full time with three nurses doing temperature checks. The crew that does not interact with the cast wears protective equipment.

“If production of this magnitude can successfully manage through the uncertainties of filming amid a pandemic, and keep people working and the production pipeline moving, there is a light at the end of the tunnel for film shoots of all sizes to create safe and sustainable environments,” said Donna Langley, the head of Universal’s Filmed Entertainment division.

This is not the only movie to get back to it, as several other films are in the works overseas like the Avatar sequels, the ‘Uncharted’ adaption, and Marvel’s Shang-Chi.

Read the entire article from the New York Times here.

Collider spoke with Jurassic World creative mind Colin Trevorrow on how the new film will feature a mixture of CGI effects with animatronics.

Jeff Goldblum is returning for this sixth Jurassic Park film with a lot of the original cast coming back to deal with the dinos.

Boban should be the only NBA player mic’d up ever

Boban might not be the best basketball player ever.

He might not be on evert kids wall like Jordan.

But he sure has the hearts of the fans.

Just listen to his mic’d up segment inside the NBA bubble.

I love him so much.

Stream new song from the Killers ‘Dying Breed’

Stream it here, the latest single from the Killers off their anticipated album ‘Imploding the Mirage’. Here is the link to check it out on Spotify.

The song sees the alt icons from Nevada collaborate with producer Flood, who had previously worked with the group on their album, ‘Sam’s Town’.

Watch our recent interview with Brendon Flowers where he talks his life in quarantine and more

The lyrics talk about the internalized anxiety about the future of the relationship and how we can weather the trials of life ahead. It has those emotional touchstones that Brendon Flowers has gracefully produced in the past, but with our current world these lyrics may take on new meaning. With thumping bass line that gets your head-bobbing on the first listen, this song could get its teeth into you quickly. The song breaks out in this very Bruce Springsteen vibe at a point that catches you off guard in a great way.

You can stream the other fresh singles released so far off the yet-to-be-released album here.
