Today’s Support Chicago Business: Pekoe & Bean

Today we shine the Support Chicago Local business Spotlight on Pekoe & Bean in Tinley Park!

Pekoe & Bean is first and foremost a tea room and coffee bar. It is dedicated to the bliss and enjoyment of hot beverages and provides the opportunity to sit and enjoy just that. While visitors are more than welcome to pick up a beverage from our full-service coffee bar, we want you to try everything we have to offer. The room provides a full tea room service including the traditional teapot accompanying three tiers of savory and sweet edibles. The three plates range from delicate finger sandwiches to rich velvety cupcakes and will give patrons an opportunity to sit back, relax, be served and enjoy.

Although high tea has its roots steeped in a more formal tradition, Pekoe & Bean’s atmosphere is relaxed and informal. ‘We want you to feel relaxed and just enjoy your visit, the people your with, the food and the drinks of course.’

Tea is not the only thing we focus on at Pekoe & Bean. Hours, days and months have gone into the decisions on coffee as well. We are proud to host amazing local coffee roasters and have their beans readily available to purchase and take home as well as enjoy in-store. Our coffee company is Chicago-based and is one of the most knowledgeable and generous companies we’ve had the pleasure of working with. ‘More to come on that!’

But wait, there’s more! Pekoe & Bean also offers two private rooms for any and all occasions that you want to celebrate. One room can accommodate up to 8 people and the other up to 22. We are now accepting reservations for the private rooms (Please call or email for more information). Each room is warm and whimsical, decorated seasonally and by event when possible.

We cannot wait to meet our new patrons and have so many wonderful loyal customers already! Thank you for visiting the site… more community events will be posted as they are planned!

I can’t wait to visit this place and have some afternoon tea … GOOD TIMES!  Please visit Pekoe & Bean and Support Local Business!  – Tim Virgin

A winter gift from Local H and Juliana Hatfield

So you’re digging out your car again?  Me too.  Only to not be able to drive it anywhere.  (trucks are not the best snow vehicles) but I digress, here’s a lovely present from Local H featuring Juliana Hatfield: a thermographic video for ‘Winter Western’ off their latest album LIFERS to watch while you are snowed in.  <3 Lauren

P.S. a little birdie told me H will be recording again soooooon xo

Whose Karen Is It?

The great Snow Wars of 2021 have heated up and Karen’s aren’t having any of it. Some neighborhood drama just unfolded and we have the Facebook post with all of the info.

This is a big one, folks. Can you identify where Karen and the snow blowing bandit are from? The conversation continues over at Facebook on 101WKQX’s page.

Science Says Partying Hard in Your 20s Will Likely Lead to Heart Problems

Science keeps on getting worse. First, they suggested we sleep with socks on. Now, they want to warn us about possibly falling victim to heart problems later in life because of our hard-partying 20s. According to a study that was conducted with over one million test subjects, partying hard during this crucial decade of your life can increase your chance of heart problems by up to nine times compared to someone who takes things in moderation.

We’re certainly not encouraging reckless behavior, but if this reality triggered something in your mind as to what you think your best party story is, by all means, shoot on over to our Facebook page and let us know what went down and how you’ve survived after the fact.

Man Lies About Murdering Someone So Police Will Plow His Driveway

We’re not sure if this is the most evil thing we’ve ever heard or the most brilliant. All we know is that a Ukrainian man called the police and admitted to a fake-murder over the phone with the idea being that the police would have to use their plows to get him out. He was right.

Unfortunately, falsifying a police report is a crime over there as well, and the man will have to pay some sort of price for lying about murdering another human. Luckily, though, his driveway is cleared.

We’ll mark this down as a genius maneuver. What other ways have you seen someone take advantage of the system like this? Let us know on Facebook what genius maneuvers you’ve seen.

Woman Makes Worst Mistake Ever With Her Boss

Oh, honey. This is no good. You can’t be doing this. Moments after letting her boss know that she would be unable to make it in for work that day, Roberta Clarke sent this message to her boss by accident.

Obviously not ideal, and Clarke began over-explaining immediately. This is everyone’s worst nightmare and rightfully so. You shouldn’t have to come in on your day off, but you can’t be gloating to your boss about popping bottles. Luckily, she was able to keep her job and besides the extreme embarrassment, was able to move on as if nothing ever happened.

“Dare me to pop tht” should live in infamy, however. This situation can die down, but that overzealous question needs to last forever.

Skitching is for amateurs. Saw biking is lit.

People do weird things when it snows out.  Some strap on their cross country skies and head down Addison, while others simply grab on to the bumper of the nearest car and do a little skitching.  These people are amateurs.  True winter champions replace the tires on their bike with circular saw blades and pedal around a frozen lake.  See for yourself below, and get ready to trade in that Peloton because here is the bike of your dreams….or your nightmares possibly/probably.

Here’s How to Stop Your Phone from Auto-Correcting the F-Word to “Duck”

Here’s a minor inconvenience that might be driving you nuts.  Does your phone ever auto-correct the F-word to the word “DUCK”?  A lot of phones do it.  But there are two easy ways around it . . .

Someone on Instagram said they got around it by adding a new contact to their address book . . . and typing the F-word into the name field.

They gave it a first and last name . . . “[Effing] [Eff]” . . . so it would also stop auto-correcting to the word “ducking.”  So that’s one way to do it.  But there’s another way that also works on most phones.

On an iPhone, just go to Settings . . . General . . . and find your Keyboard settings.  Then click on “Text Replacement.”

It’s a feature that lets you create shortcuts.  Like if you type, “OMW” it’ll change it to “On my way.”  But for this, enter the F-word as the shortcut AND the full phrase.

Android phones can do it too.  Just go to Settings . . . Language & Input . . . and find a feature called “Personal Dictionary.”

(If your iPhone has the newest version of iOS, you might not need to do anything.  They apparently fixed it, but not all iPhones support the newest version.)

Today’s Support Chicago Business: Perma-Seal

Today we shine the Support Chicago Local business Spotlight on Perma-Seal in Burr Ridge.

They are a small family-owned waterproofing, foundation repair, and concrete raising & leveling business serving Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana since 1979.  Our purpose is to Make the World a Better Place by creating dry basements and crawlspaces, stable foundations and healthy spaces

Perma-Seal Basement Systems is a locally-owned, family-operated business that was started through humble beginnings in 1979. After answering an ad in the newspaper for a manager trainee, Roy was told to “manage this” by being handed a shovel. He rose to the challenge and was promoted to production manager. However, after working for several local waterproofing companies, he was unhappy with the “patch ‘em now, service ‘em later” business approach. He decided to branch off on his own and build his own company, alongside his red, pickup truck.

Their focus continues to be centered around their clients and providing a superior customer experience through honest, ethical, high-quality work, completed by a business of integrity, and backed up by a solid warranty

Chicago Couple Leaves Huge Tip on Valentine’s Day

A couple at Bucktown’s Club Lucky left a monstrous tip on Valentine’s Day. Server Eddie Cruz was cleaning up their table when he glanced down at the receipt and did a double-take. The couple had left a $2,000 tip.

The couple had wished to remain anonymous but Club Lucky staff noted that they come to the restaurant every year on Valentine’s Day and prefer to sit in the same spot, as their first date was there 20 years ago. They returned the favor in a big way this year. Do you have a romantic story like this? Let us know on Facebook.

German Man Attempts to Describe Baseball

Perhaps, as a country, we’ve been ignorant to just how complicated the concept of baseball is. This German man helped put things in perspective for just how complicated of a game it is.

Alright, maybe he raises a few valid points. When the world opens back up, we volunteer to take this man to Wrigley or Guaranteed Rate for an afternoon at the ballpark. I’m sure he’d learn a lot from Brian’s mansplaining.

“Karen” Comes After Tom Brady!

A Florida woman by the name of Lorraine Grohs wants an apology from Tom Brady. For the past two decades, most of America has wanted Tom Brady to apologize for existing, but Grohs has a very specific reason for why she wants the seven-time Super Bowl champ to say he’s sorry, “I have a big history of this trophy being made by my father and it’s such an honor, and I know all the craftsmen that made it when my dad was there, also at Tiffany’s and it takes a lot of work, a lot hard work – a lot of hours go into it…It really upset me that this trophy was disgraced and disrespected by being thrown as if it was a real football.”

In case you missed it, Tom Brady got super drunk and subsequently super cool when he launched the Lombardi trophy from yacht-to-boat during the Bucs celebration.

This “Karen” says she hasn’t slept in TWO NIGHTS because of the objectively cool thing that Brady did during the celebration.

Oh well, Karen’s are going to Karen.

Energy drinks linked to depression and other total bummers, in new study.

Cracking open an energy drink to start the day — or just keep that day going?  This might make you think twice.

One of the first long-term studies of the beverages looking to find causational links to health problems was conducted.  They claim some shocking results:

“After controlling for parental mental health, illicit drug use, dietary patterns, family income, parental alcohol consumption and cigarette use, BMI, physical activity and other factors, the researchers found that changes in energy drink consumption were positively associated with increased stress scores and, in young adult males, depression and anxiety.”
