Florida hotel abruptly closes, kicks out 100 guests with no refund

Imagine relaxing on vacation — and then, with no notice, getting kicked out with zero refunds.

That’s a nightmare.  And it happened to around a 100 guests at a Florida hotel — reportedly, because the hotel had been sold earlier that day.  The new owners apparently aren’t going to be in the hospitality business, because they locked the doors and set up security on the driveway to keep people out.  Not very hospitable.

What’s the craziest thing that’s happened to you on vacation?  Because — this would #1 on the list for me.  — [eric]

You Need to Hear This Smashing Pumpkins Remix!

A brave soul has taken the angst-infused ‘Bullet with Butterfly Wings’ and turned it into a jaunty, 80s pop track. Give it a listen.

What do you think of this? It’s like if the Pumpkins crossed over into the Depeche Mode universe…which is certainly something. Is this a smash hit or is it trash? Let us know over on our Facebook page.

What’s a Little Thing That Makes You Happy?

The last year has been challenging. We’ve found ourselves relying on little acts of kindness throughout the day to better our moods. Sometimes it’s another person that makes us happier, but sometimes it’s something that puts a smile on our face. This kid loves one thing and one thing only and that thing is candy. Watch the face he makes at the mere mention of sweet treats.

What are the top foods that cheer you up?

In 2014, Taco Bell added bacon-egg-and-waffle tacos to its breakfast menu, and they only lasted a year.  But they might have been onto something . . .

A new survey asked people to name foods that can instantly cheer you up.  And tacos, bacon, eggs, and waffles ALL made the top five . . .

1.  Tacos.  One in three people said eating them instantly puts them in a better mood.

2.  Bacon and eggs.

3.  Steak.

4.  Fried rice.

5.  Waffles or pancakes.

6.  Mashed potatoes.

7.  Mac-and-cheese.

8.  Baked potatoes.

9.  Cheeseburgers.

10.  French fries.  Fried chicken and pizza barely missed the top ten.  (Only 1 in 5 said fresh fruit cheers them up, and just 1 in 7 said the same about vegetables.)

The survey also asked for your go-to food when you’re having a bad day, OR a good day.  And for both, the #1 answer was chocolate.

What Weird Thing Did Your School Ban?

An elite private school in Perth, Australia has banned the mullet, deeming it “unacceptable”. The mullet, after peaking in the 1990s, has been on a roaring resurgence as of late. The school said, ““It is without reservation that the College sets clear requirements that ensure health and safety, as well as setting a high standard for personal presentation. The current trend of growing the hair at the back of the head and/or closely cropping the sides of the head to accentuate the ‘mullet’ style are untidy, non-conventional and not acceptable…”

There is nothing more dangerous than a man with a mullet.

Do You Miss Blockbuster?

After the release of the Netflix documentary “The Last Blockbuster”, the brand’s final video store, which resides in Bend, Oregon, has soared in popularity. The blue & yellow interior has not only been filled with thousands of videos, but lately, flowers and cards from people who were so moved by the documentary that they wanted to send a gift. It’s ironic that Netflix produced the documentary, as Blockbuster had a chance to buy Netflix many moons ago. Is it fair to say the world would look drastically different had that happened?

Do you miss Blockbuster? Are there any extinct retail offerings that you really wish would make a comeback? Tell us over on our Facebook page!

Your favorite bands predict the upcoming MLB season

Baseball season is here!  Few sports can affect all the senses quite like it.  The sound of the crowd and the crack of the bat.  The taste of a perfectly grilled hot dog.  The smell of barf coming from 3 rows behind you thanks to the Chad who couldn’t hold his liquor in the Wrigley Field bleachers.  DUDE!  With Opening Day tomorrow, temperatures warming up, and the ability for people to actually go to games, I am REALLY excited for this season.  So are a bunch of your favorite bands.  Check out who Tom from Blink-182, Patrick from Black Keys, and our very own Tim McIlrath of Rise Against think about their favorite team’s chances this year HERE.  Will we finally get an all Chicago World Series?  After everything we’ve been through in the last year we deserve it!!!
