A guy in River North got married recently, but he was showing off his new (well it was his Dad’s) wedding ring on the special day, and it came off! Then it fell down a sewer drain! It sounds made up, but it happened. I can’t imagine how he broke that news to his new wifey. ‘Uh, honey, you know that thingy that symbolizes our forever lasting love and dedication to each other? Yeah, I lost it already.’ Of all the things to lose on your wedding day? Is that a sign? Thankfully the Chicago Fire Department stepped in and saved the day, literally. They got the ring out in a short amount of time, and the couple got some fantastic memories too. Thanks Engine 98! They owe ya!
Do you think you have a good side? This is why!
I’ve thought that I have a “good side” for years. My left side. People might tease me, that’s fine. I can see an actual difference ok?! Mariah Carey thinks the same thing. She only lets the cameramen get her left side too during live shots. At least she did that at the VH1 Divas concert… such a diva move! Anyway, I know I’m not alone here. It turns out that there’s actually a scientific reason for this phenomenon. Emotional Lateralization is the idea that the two sides of our brain process and control emotions differently. Or some refer to this more simply as “left-side bias.” The right side of our brain controls emotion more and expression, but it also controls the LEFT side of your face. So if you’re a lefty, like myself, you’re using the right side of brain more, again the side that handles emotions… this is all in theory by the way. Showing more emotion on one side of your face makes people think that it’s more attractive or revealing, hence they like the left side better. Of course, that’s not to say that no one likes the right side of their face more. There are people that do. That’s why this theoretical at this point, but still very interesting is it not? It was his first day! They had to razz the new guy a little bit and this is how you do it properly at a mortuary. Poor guy almost has a heart attack. But I can’t stop watching it! I’m dead! This is great joke 15/10 guys!
What stupid purchase did you make during lockdown?
One tenth of people have made purchases during lockdown that they regret. You’re not alone! It’s ranging from giant hot tubs to that peloton bike that you’re going to start using today, tomorrow, next week/month. We’re talking serious buyers remorse though; items over $1,000.
Home entertainment is a huge category for most people, obviously. Pizza ovens, bread makers, home gyms, bikes, they all fit in this category according to a home insurers. The insurer Aviva surveyed 4000 people and a lot of those participants had given away some of the larger items they’ve purchased because they weren’t using them, just collecting dust.
They also said that since 2020, a lot of claims have gone up, say hot tubs for instance. They saw a 188% increase in claims for accidental damage. At least those are getting used! Just know you’re not the only one who sat at home in 2020 and did some retail therapy. Hey, you probably saved a ton by not going out. That’s how you can justify that pool that you swam in once.
This girl keeps perfect track of all of her “conquests” if you will…
She loves her lists! Especially the one titled “Guys I’ve slept with.” I wonder what that one is about… In any event, I’ve heard of people doing this. I guess once you get up to 40 you should probably start keeping track for safety’s sake. She keeps their record by their first name and the first initial of their last name. So in case if anyone finds it guys, you still have the opportunity to deny, deny, deny!! She also keeps a record if she liked the experience or not. Like a little smiley emoji or something?! ‘Not like’ equals a frown? Two frowns?? Then you’re in trouble. This reminds me of the girl from ‘Mallrats’ that was keeping tabs so that she could write a book. Maybe this girl should do that. Oh wait, it’s been done. It’s called ‘Sex in the City.” But seriously, if you had to, right this second, list off the first names of everyone you’ve had relations with, you probably wouldn’t be able to do it. First names and first initials? Yeah, didn’t think so. Keep doing you girl, err ahh, other people!

According to a Household Pulse Survey, of the largest 15 metro areas in the U.S., Seattle “wins” for being the most stressed out. Now, how do cities become this way? Participants marked down how often they felt “nervous, anxious, or ‘on edge.'” Chicago comes in at number 7, which is probably nothing to brag about, but these stats are intended to help policymakers see the impacts of the pandemic across the country and how communities are rebounding from them. This Uber Eats driver drops the food, takes a pic and disappears in the opposite direction. Get a good look at this face. After he drops the food, within a minute, someone, who may or may not be him, steals the bag. We also get a shot of his face- you decide if it’s the same person… If it is, I’m not even mad! Eight dead, several injured at Travis Scott’s ‘Astroworld’ music festival
In Houston, Texas over the weekend, chaos erupted as rapper Travis Scott played to a crowd of over 50,000 people. Hundreds of concert goers were caught in a stampede as Scott hit the stage and despite numerous pleas to security to stop the show, the set continued as planned. After the show, the Houston native took to Instagram, saying, “”I just want to send out prayers to the ones that was lost last night…We’re actually working right now to identify the families so we can help assist them through this tough time. My fans really mean the world to me, and I always just want to leave them with a positive experience, and anytime I can make out anything that’s going on — stop the show and help them get the help they need…I just could never imagine the severity of the situation.”

Penny for you thoughts? I mean six weeks of work! A waitress in Nashville that goes by Liny, showed people just how much she makes after taxes as a server- one cent. This was a combined total of 6 weeks of work by the way. She urges people to tip the wait staff otherwise this could be their take home. The federal minimum for tipped employees is $2.13. The video itself has sparked a debate on whether it should be on the restaurant to pay their employees more or the customer to tip well all the time. One thing is for sure, if you can’t tip, you can’t go out to eat!
Dave Grohl stopped a show to help an audience member in need
Dave Grohl halted a show in the middle of a song to help 13-year-old Owen, who has a development disability and is also blind. He was having some trouble in the crowd with his parents, so Dave invited them up on stage to sit instead. Once on stage, he even got to talk to Dave and strum his guitar. Owen is now an even bigger Foo Fighters fan than ever before. His parents were extremely proud and beyond excited that he was able to have that experience.

A TikToker took a DNA test in September and found out that she is not as Italian as she thought. In fact, right after she took it, she got a message from a woman asking if she was related her daughter. It turns out, our TikToker was a sperm donor baby and there are over 50 siblings from the same guy! She’s already a triplet and now she has dozens of half brothers and sisters out there in the world. There’s a actually a Facebook group dedicated to all off the siblings. They want to make sure that they know all of each other so they don’t accidentally date! How does this happen?! There is no bigger badge of honor amongst music fans to be able to say — “I saw them before they were big.”
This may be one of biggest badges of all, if true.
A local music fan and historian from downstate Carbondale has researched whether or not Nirvana played this college town on July 4th, 1989 — and has presented his findings in a podcast.
Nirvana famously performed in Chicago in September of 1989 — so not sure if the timing lines up. But check out their evidence and decide for yourself if it truly happened.

Some skydivers in South Africa jumped out of a plane, then suddenly the plane stalled out and started free-falling at 16,000 feet. You won’t believe this! Once the 8 jumpers leave the plane, they realize what’s going on, but they still managed to do their formation. The plane was able to pull out of the nosedive and landed safely, but just barely!
