For what would’ve been Chris Cornell’s 60th birthday, his wife played a snippet of a previously unreleased cover that Cornell performed of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car”. In a statement on Instagram, Cornell’s wife Vicky said this, “Chris would have turned 60 today. Although everyone that loved him is sad that he’s no longer here, it’s all of you, the fans, who made him, whose love has continued to keep his legacy alive. I’m so grateful to you all for that. While I remember him best as the wonderful husband, father and human being he was, I’d like to celebrate his whole life and everything he gave us. On his 60th we can all celebrate his genius as an artist who redefined music, but also the incredible man who touched and changed lives. He’s an icon, and he gave us all so much — his unique voice, his poetry, his creativity. His life was a gift to so many. And as you can hear — there’s more to come!!! Sad Summer Fest is currently touring around the states and celebrating its 5th year anniversary! Now if you were a summer at the warped tour kid of kid/teen like I was back in the day then Sad Summer Fest is honestly the ideal fun one-day fest to do with friends or even solo! This year was my first year attending, and I would love to return! It was so much, super organized, and had an amazing line-up! Heading for Chicago was Mayday Parade which closed out! Before them, the lineup went The Maine, The Wonder Years, We The Kings, Knuckle Puck, Real Friends, The Summer Set, Daisy Grenade, and Diva Bleach who opened the festival! Besides the amazing emo bands and music, Sad Summer Fest had some amazing merch. With every purchase, you were given a coin to try and win your very own stuff Sad Summer Bear from a claw machine in the Arcade area of the fest which is one of the most unique ideas I have ever seen I am here for it! All the bands were of course selling merch as well and some even had Sad Summer Fest exclusive merch which who doesn’t love that? For food options, there was a wide variety but that is due to where Sad Summer Fest was this year here in Chicago! The Fest was held at The Salt Shed and the Salt Shed Fairgrounds which was a cool and unique setup! Lastly, Sad Summer Fest has all the main bands play on one giant stage which is unique but I also do feel like it makes it easier instead of playing the guessing game of what stage do I need to be at and what time.
Overall, I would love to do Sad Summer Fest again! If you have never done a festival or if you feel like doing a 3 day one is just a little too much for you, then definitely check out this fun one-day fest! Plus Sad Summer Fest tours and certain dates may have different bands which I also kind of like! Makes it more fun to travel and follow it around! The fest itself has become my favorite one-day fest in a while and I will say, I am more sad that the fest is over than actually being there 😜.
Detroit Local band aka I Prevail just came to Credit Union One Amphitheater and burned the house down with their talent! As someone who grew up in Michigan and watched these guys play tiny basement shows to now co-headlining an amphitheater is absolutely huge and shows how much hard work and dedication can really pay off! The band of course would not stop thanking their fans for being the reason they are able to tour and be a band for the last 10 years! They also of coursed talked about the famous cover of Blank Space that went viral and how thankful that their fans who found them because of that cover are still here to this day and supporting them since then! I also loved seeing Lizzy Hale of Halestorm coming out and performing their new song, “Can You See Me In The Dark” live! It was absolutely incredible and honestly sounded just like the recording that I listen to from Spotify! I Prevail of course made jokes about liking different hockey teams and other various sports but at the end of the day, they wouldn’t be here without all the fans! If you can, I highly recommend seeing IPrevail, Halestorm, Hollywood Undead, and Fit For A King on this current summer tour!

It’s a banner day for Chicago. ‘The Bear’ cleaned up during yesterday’s Emmy nominations, ‘The Bear’ received at least one nomination in all of the major comedy categories for this year’s Emmy’s, announced Wednesday. The nominations were for the “The Bear’s” second season. That smashes the record that ’30 Rock’ set in 2009 with 22 nominations.
‘The Bear’ will be going up against ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’, ‘Hacks’, ‘Only Murders in the Buildling’, ‘Palm Royale’, ‘Reservation Dogs’, and ‘What We Do in the Shadows’.
