Dave Grohl finally gets to sit on the “Hot Ones” hot seat

Dave Grohl has finally sat down in the hot seat.

Hot Ones, the dual interview/hot sauce challenge show hosted by Chicago native Sean Evans, claims the Foo Fighters frontman has been the most requested guest, outside of Gordon Ramsey.

Dave brings a challenge of his own to the table — doing shots while they partake in the wings. He also talks about:

  • The new movie Studio 666
  • His love of smoking meat
  • The best drummers of all-time
  • The art of making an amazing cover tune.

Eric Kristensen would never make it past round two or three of Hot Ones — not that he would ever be invited on to the show. Eric is a marginally famous, regional celebrity with 101WKQX who is also on Instagram (@erickristensen)

For no particular reason — the Top 9 movies where Russians are the bad guys

Photo by Luis Quintero from Pexels

Once upon a time (and to be fair, more prominently in the last few years as well) — Russia was the undisputed leader of cinema bad guys in the United States.

Current events of the day have you a little — stressed? Something tells me these movies are going to spike on streaming. Take a break from the news and maybe watch one of these pieces of cinema. Here is a list of the Top 10 movies where Russians are the bad guys, listed in no particular order.

Rocky IV (1985)

Ivan Drago. Need we say more?

Miracle (2004)

The U.S. Men’s Hockey Team victory over the Soviets in the 1980 Olympics was nothing short of a….well, you get it.

Air Force One (1994)

“Get off my plane!”

Dr. Strangelove (1964)

The actual title is a little more involved — Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb — and so too is this legendary satirical look at the Cold War at its height. Legendary director (Stanley Kubrick) and legendary comedic actor (Peter Sellers).

Goldeneye (1995)

James Bond and the Russians….name a better duo. Plus, Xenia Onatopp gives me that confusing feeling in my stomach.

John Wick (2014)

The criminal underworld is ripe for cinematic conflicts. It can be the Mob. It can the Yakuza. Or, it can be the Russians. Who know better not to piss off Keanu Reeves.

The Hunt For Red October (1990)

The complicated nature of the late Cold War is captured well in this chess-like thriller in which a Soviet nuclear sub captain may or may not be trying to defect the the United States. You know it’s good when you don’t have to use the actors full names: Connery. Baldwin. And James Earl Jones, who you need all three names to really appreciate.

Red Dawn (1984)

Accept no substitutes for the original — what American teenagers might do if the Soviet Union were to suddenly appear on U.S. soil.

Police Academy 7: Mission To Moscow (1994)

Just kidding. (Seriously, how did we make it to seven movies in this franchise — I was good after number one, and that’s stretching it.)

Am I the Jerk?

Rarely do we see such serious issues compound over such a juvenile topic. In the case of this week’s Jerk, it is a husband who’s heated by his wife’s decision to make a drastic change in her life.

Is his wife a jerk for “chopping off the twins”? The conversation lives on Facebook!

A grown man gets a visit from Mom at work!

Ohio reporter Miles Harris got a surprise while doing recording a TV segment, it was his mom. The camera never stopped rolling but you can see him tell the camera man to hold on when he recognized his mom’s car. “HI BABY!” she screams. Adorable. He tells her he’s a little busy at the moment. You’re never too old to be embarrassed by your mother!

Michael Jordan’s hand was where?!

At the NBA All-Star weekend, they honored 75 of the best players of all time. Jordan was supposed to be at a NASCAR event, but made the trip at the last minute anyway. And I’m sure he’s happy that he did. He got to GRAB this shot with Vanessa Bryant and singer Mary J. Blige. Now, look closely and you’ll see why this photo is going viral… MJ’s hand on Mary J is “close.” OK?!

Coldplay cover Kid Cudi’s “Day N Nite”

Coldplay recently covered Kid Cudi’s “Day N Nite.” Chris Martin says that it’s the first time that they’ve had time to record a proper cover. He loved the song when it first came out in 2008 and always had a vision of what it could sound like with more piano. He hopes that anyone listening to it will just think, ” Wow Kid Cudi is amazing.”

Ozark Season 4, Part 2 is almost here!

It’s coming… Ozark Season 4, Part 2 is dropping on Netflix April 29th. The trailer notes that “the end arrives sooner than you think.” The two part season release follows the format of Breaking Bad and Mad Men to add suspense and it’s working. There’s only 7 episodes left, FOREVER. Here’s the teaser for you!

Imagine “Mr. Brightside,” but if Blink-182 did it instead of The Killers.

A lot more people are jumping on the trend of “your favorite song in the style of,” which is always an interesting exercise in…..WTF?!?

“Mr. Brightside” from The Killers is so popular that it was on the UK charts for years after it was released.  Would it still have the same appeal if it were a Blink-182 song?  I’ll leave that decision up to you.  — [eric]

Whose Karen Is It?

The pandemic opened a lot of people up to the world of grocery store delivery options. Unfortunately, the wrong kind of people caught wind of this system. This week’s Karen certainly falls into that category.

Where is this Karen from? The conversation lives on Facebook!

Guys, ever wonder what having a baby is like? This guy now has an idea, watch!

They say childbirth is one of the most excruciating pains a human can deal with, but men don’t have to do it so how can they know? Now they can with this machine that gives contractions. Justin tried it on the show a while back and he was almost out cold from the pain. Watch this poor man immediately regret what he got himself into in this video.

This man looks like two completely different people in his license photo

Taking the perfect license photo is nearly impossible. You’re never ready, your hair is messed up, and it doesn’t look like you anyway! This man decided to fight the power of the DMV photographer. He shaved only half of his face and looks like two completely different people in his license photo! Maybe he’s the type of guy who goes back and forth between beard and no beard and wants to be ready for either situation. I always say a man with facial looks better- this photograph is proof.

Things most humans can’t do…

Here are some things that only 1% of people can do. For example, can you touch your tongue to your elbow? Try it right now. Didn’t think so. What about sticking out your tongue and having that touch the bottom of your nose? Moving your ears? Raising one eyebrow? Check out the video for others… if you can, you just might be in the 1%!

Manley’s Mixtape

I Like Music, you like music! Here are just a few tunes I’m digging on this week that I think are worth your consideration.

Backseat Lovers- Kilby Girl. I saw these guys at the Vic the other day and they wrecked me in the best way possible. The crowd knew every word to every song. I think a big trend musically in 2022 will be authentic bands, and these guys fit the bill perfectly.

Sad Night Dynamite- Kill Shot. I still can’t stop listening to this band. They are amazing.

Rise Against- Give It All. I probably listen to this song once a week.

Dope Lemon- Hey You. Listening to this song will make you feel cooler than you really are.

Gang of Youths- All My Friends (LCD Soundsystem cover). Gang of Youths are a super underrated band, in my opinion, and this cover is 10/10 SO GOOD.
