Sure, it’s not unusual when a passenger leaves something like a piece of luggage on a plane. It is, however, highly unusual when a human heart doesn’t get deplaned.
On a recent Southwest flight, a human heart was accidentally kept on board instead of getting unloaded in Seattle prompting an in-air turnaround. “There was no intended recipient,” spokesperson Deanna Santana said. “While this gift was rerouted, it was received unharmed…to prepare the valves for future transplant.” The heart still arrived at its destination with time to spare.
