Story behind the Wild fire golfing photo

The image above is not ‘fake news’. It not a photoshopped and cropped pic created to get shared by people duped into thinking it’s real. It is a photo of men casually playing golf while a massive wildfire burns on a massive destructive scale behind them in Oregon. It was taken by photographer Kristi McCluer who conducted an interview with Fortune.com to confirm it is indeed a real photo from wildfires that started early last week near the border of Washington state and Oregon.

“The golfers and I were not actually in any danger,” says McCluer. “When I was done taking pictures, I walked over to them and we talked about how crazy and surreal and horrifying this event is, but I didn’t get their names or have any real interaction with them. It was just a few words exchanged.”

The fire itself caused air warnings to the city of Portland and it believed it will be contained at some point this weekend. Thousands of people have been displaced by the fire reportedly was started possibly by a teenager shooting off fireworks into the forest near Eagle Creek.

You may have already seen the photo shared with many adding their own narrative to what it represents or simply marveling at how bizarre it is. The fire and putt putt classic got viral off a tweet from TV writer David Simon, best know for his work on ‘The Wire’ .
