I know some of you could care less about this list, but we couldn’t care less about that because “could care less” is factually incorrect. Some phrases have been engrained in our DNA for so long that we have forgotten the actual pronunciation of them. Take these for example:
- I’m giving you leadway vs. I’m giving you leeway
The latter is correct, as leadway isn’t actually a word.
- Expresso vs Espresso
Coffee shops must deal with people trying to order an expresso all the time. There’s no such drink. The drink you’re trying to order is an espresso.
- Irregardless vs. Regardless
Regardless means without regard. Throwing on “IR” to the beginning makes the word a double negative. I think we can all agree that “without without regard” doesn’t make sense.
