Band: 48sin
Song: Communal Decay (click to download)
After years of recording and playing around the Midwest, 48sin has acquired the perfect lineup for its onslaught of genre-bending Rock. Originally started as a solo project, Patrik added more players over the years, finalizing with the following: Patrik (vocals, guitars, synths), Aaron (guitars, vocals), Justin (drums), and finally 3bc (bass). 48sin's sound combines excellent rock songs with the use of electronic instruments and other noises. They believe in Art for Art's sake, and want to make music that pushes boundaries, but is still more than listenable." www.48sin.com
Band: Suffrajett
Song: Closer (click to download)
Hypnotized by the devastatingly provocative front woman Simi, and described as raw, low-fi Afro-punk, garage glam, art punk, mental rock, garage rock and grunge hair metal, it’s clear that Suffrajett has carved out a place that’s entirely their own and defies description. www.suffrajett.com
Band: Assembly
Song: Never Even True (click to download)
Out of the ashes of the critically acclaimed band Caviar (Island/Def Jam) comes The Assembly. Former Caviar guitarist Dave Suh takes his turn at front man this time, showcasing a blend of influences ranging from The Smiths, Nirvana, and Interpol. With pulsing drum loops, grinding guitars, and soaring choruses, this explosive new band from Chicago is definitely one to watch! The new EP, "Paranoia Will Destroy Ya," produced by Alex Kemp of Assassins, will be released in mid November, with the first single being "Never Even True." www.theassemblyband.com
Band: Nor
Song: Seven Birds in a Tree (click to download)
Influenced by everything from Daft Punk to New Order to the Rolling Stones, the sound is one that certainly can’t be listened to sitting down, it’s catchy, and poppy, but not in a way that seems contrived. The artist himself describes the music as “robotic” and “pop sensible.” www.myspace.com/normusic

Band: The Countdown
Song: Say Something (click to download)
Sweaty, stomping, jarring, precise, angular, mechanical, brash and raucous - adjectives that all seem to fall short of sufficiently describing the crazed noise rock extravaganza that is The Countdown. Proclaimed by Filter Magazine as "Easily the hottest DIY husband/wife duo to hail from the Midwest since you-know-who burst outta Detroit", Stiff and Roxie Starr fuse together a unique brand of tinny beats, eerie synth-pop and dirty, thrashing rock 'n' roll. www.thecountdown.net

Band: AbsentStar
Song: Give In To Me (click to download)
AbsentStar formed in 2004 while recording their first record with producer C.S. Gladfelter at EQHQ in Chicago. The songs were there, but the band formed as the record was being tracked. It was released in early 2005 with a showcase at SXSW in Austin Texas soon to follow. The band continued to record and play throughout the year and were signed by A&R veteran Steve Ralbovsky then of RCA records.Ralbovsky recently was offered his own imprint at Columbia records and took AbsentStar with him to be his flagship project on the newly formed Canvas Back Music/Columbia. The band is preparing to record their debut record this winter which will be released in 2007. www.absentstar.com

Band: The Fold
Song: Gravity(click to download)
The Fold is the first Chicago band to sign with Tooth & Nail Records. A new frontier such as this might intimidate most bands, but it doesn't scare The Fold; in fact they seem downright optimistic about it. Fresh off of dates with The Plain White T's, Smoking Popes, and this summer's Warped Tour, their recent debut is rapidly approaching 11,000 copies sold, and their single "Gravity" getting national radio play. The band continues to tour relentlessly in pursuit of the early supporters that will no doubt stick around as true fans. The Fold is currently in the studio working on thier next release.

Band: Team Rockit
Song: Living Proof (click to download)
Raw energy. Fuzzy guitars. Unpretentious music. Chicago-style gutter punk n’ roll at its finest. The Lowest Point In Rock N’ Roll History is the new album by garage rock trio Team Rockit. The band has released their fourth album on Fire-tone Records. Comparisons for their music have been made to Urge Overkill, The Strokes, Foo Fighters, and The Figgs. They enlisted engineers Todd Bowie (Beck, Joe Walsh) and Dan Glomski (Pixies, Dandy Warhols) to mix The Lowest Point In Rock N’ Roll History. Team Rockit has opened for Marty Casey & Lovehammers, completed multiple tours in the USA and overseas (while heading out for their 3rd European tour on Wednesday 9/22), and has landed a European distribution agreement with One on One Records. Band: Nude Celebs
Song: Keep Your Hands to Myself (click to download)
Finally surpassing the stigma of their previous projects, these four men exist only as Nude Celebs. Equipped with an acquired taste and fully immersed in both the upper crust and underbelly of the cut-throat social elite, Nude Celebs can speak only with brutal honesty. They are universal, from the Upper West Side to West Hollywood, Chicago to the Strip, they have become a midwestern safe haven for gritty, tongue-in-cheek rock and roll. Nude Celebs are certainly the death of discreet.

Band: Assassins
Song: Guilty (click to download)
Assassins immediately made an impact on the Chicago scene with a sound that evoked some Ritalin starved orphan of Primal Scream, New Order, Fleetwood Mac and Brainiac. They were soon opening for Duran Duran, Soundtrack of our Lives, Interpol, Jet, Adult., French Kicks, The Walkmen, VHS or Beta? and Hard-Fi. The band was also handpicked by Peter Hook to be the sole opener at one of only four New Order performances in America. Having earned their stripes on stage, the time had come to lay down an album. The band went to New York, enlisting the help of veteran producer Stephen Hague and Radiohead engineer Graeme Stewart to complete the album. The record was mixed with the help of Serban Ghenea (Neptunes) and Dave Bascombe (Soulwax, Depeche Mode, Goldfrapp).

Band: Blacklist Union
Song: Back to Zero (click to download)
"BLACKLIST UNION, plays dirty sleazy American Rock and Roll like a mix between VELVET REVOLVER, BACKYARD BABIES, HANOI ROCKS, CATS IN BOOTS, FASTER PUSSYCAT, GUNSNROSES with a little ALICE IN CHAINS thrown in for a darker feeling while the singer sounds like OZZY and the songs are catchy and very melodic in the choruses department." - Strutter Magazine

Band: The Ladies & Gentlemen
Song: J.A.N.W.T.B. (click to download)
Unlike their name, The Ladies & Gentlemen do not feature any ladies in the band, yet the all-male group can certainly not be described as gentlemen either. What they do feature is blasts of hook-filled new wave power pop songs that clock in under 3 minutes! Formed out of the ashes of venerable Chicago stalwarts Box-O-Car, singer/songwriter Skid Marks brought aboard ex-Material Issue drummer Mike Zelenko, ex-Verbow bass player Lennie Deitsch, and Lennie and Skid's friend, "recording-engineer-extaordinaire" and ex-Poi Energy, Inc. keyboardist Scott Ramsayer to play synthesizer in the spring of 2004. Since forming less than 2 years ago The Ladies & Gentlemen have already performed with Iggy Pop, Jet, Louis XIV, The Dead 60's, The Cramps, Superdrag, Cheap Trick, We Are Scientists, and Say Hi To Your Mom, to name just a few. All this with no recordings released due to the word-of-mouth buzz about their incendiary live shows!
