Britney Spears Loves Tool

Posted 9/28/2009 11:24:00 AM
Two musical artists I never expected to talk about in the same breath: Tool and Britney Spears. And yet, here we are. This morning, Leno from Dyer alerted me to a new "poem" that Miss Spears "debuted" at her performance in Dallas this past Friday night. The poem is as follows:

I know the pieces fit cuz I watched them fall away
Mildewed and smoldering, fundamental differing,
Pure intention juxtaposed will set two lovers souls in motion
Disintegrating as it goes testing our communication
The light that fueled our fire then has burned a hole between us so
We cannot see to reach an end crippling our communication.

Not bad, right? Except that this "poem" is from "SCHISM," GOSH DARN IT. After wiping away my tears of frustration, my first coherent thought was: "how could anyone have thought that was a Britney original? There's no way that girl has ever ...

The Great Muse Switcharoo

Posted 9/22/2009 8:22:00 AM
I'm back at work after another successful Last Letter Game Marathon (more on that later), and I'm happy to start my day with a delightful music-related prank. What does Muse decide to do when they find out they can't perform their song "Uprising" live on an Italian TV show? Matt, Dom and Chris pull a switcharoo and have some fun. I do love those boys. Thanks to everyone who sent me this video!

Wave Goodbye: NIN Pics

Long time, no blog. Here are some of my favorite pics from this Saturday's "Wave Goodbye" Nine Inch Nails show:

More to come later. Still recovering. :)

New Radiohead Track

Posted 8/13/2009 11:25:00 AM
When I haven't been working, I've been listening to the 14-second clip of Them Crooked Vultures over and over and over again. Now I have something new to obsess over: A NEW RADIOHEAD SONG OMG.

Don't know where it's from yet, but I'm giddy nonetheless. Thanks Rolling Stone!

Lollapalooza 2009

Posted 8/11/2009 4:08:00 PM
Another Lollapalooza weekend in the books. We'll always remember this one as the year the weather went crazy: cold rain on Friday gave way to scorching heat on Saturday and Sunday. My Q101 responsibilities kept me very busy throughout the weekend, but I still managed to sneak in enough time with friends and bands to keep me satisfied until next year.

Artists I saw/heard: The Gaslight Anthem, Ben Folds, Thievery Corporation, Atmosphere, Gomez, Coheed and Cambria, Rise Against, Tool, The Airborne Toxic Event, Vampire Weekend, Cold War Kids, Snoop Dogg, Them Crooked Vultures (I was able to buy tickets for TCV, somehow, and it was amazing. Probably top three concerts ever.)

Artists I wish I hadn't missed: Kings of Leon (stupid failed power nap), Cage the Elephant, The Hood Internet, Silversun Pickups

Artists I interviewed: Ben Folds, Hockey, The Virgins, Kaiser Chiefs, The Airborne Toxic Event, Cage the Elephant, Passion ...

Maynard's Mustache

Posted 8/3/2009 1:58:00 PM
Lollapalooza draws closer with every passing second. I'm extremely excited that Tool will be making one of their few U.S. appearances this summer in our fair city. Joey O sent me some reviews and images from this past weekend's All Points West festival, including this pic of Maynard:

...is that a drawn-on mustache, or is it real? Either way, it's AWESOME.

8-Bit Keyboard Cat

Posted 7/30/2009 10:54:00 AM
Before this morning, I thought that I'd seen all I needed to see from Keyboard Cat. The novelty had worn off, and I'd grown weary of the internet's collection of "play him off" antics. Then, Whitney sent me this video. I'm back, cat. I'm back.

A Day Without Megan Fox

Posted 7/29/2009 10:42:00 AM
Asylum.com has decided that the media's obsession with Megan Fox has reached critical mass, and the time has to do something about it. The website's staff members have declared August 4th to be "A Day Without Megan Fox," and they promise that no matter what she might do on that day - even if she releases a sex tape - they will not cover it. Apparently this is all an attempt to give some other not-quite-as-hot-but-still-pretty-smokin' lady a chance to shine. Either that or a plea for people like me to pay attention to Asylum.com for more than a few minutes at a time. Success!

I have no problem with Miss Megan or the weird things she says, but feel free to let me know if you've hit your saturation point with her yet and which young starlet you'd like the world to ogle on August 4th instead. Hot girls ...

NIN: The FINAL Final Shows

Posted 7/28/2009 2:25:00 PM
I'm pretty excited to be giving out Nine Inch Nails tickets this week. It's a rare thing in life to get a second chance to say goodbye, and that's what Trent Reznor is giving us with these final shows in August. Here are a few of his latest thoughts about the end of NIN's touring days, technology and Twitter.

Oh, and if you haven't heard, you can text me to win my NIN tickets (NIN to 99161, texter #500 wins) when you hear Trent say the following during my show: "The way I present Nine Inch Nails - I'm trying to do it with the fan or the music fan in mind... I'm just trying to make the most of it, and I'm very grateful that people are still interested in what I'm up to." It's an interview clip from when I spoke with him last year. Swoon. I'm planning ...

We Were Jammin'

I really love this picture that my promotions assistant Kevin took last night at the DuPage County Fair. This was right before I brought the Wailers on stage: it was a beautiful night to stand outside with some great people and hear some reggae.

I'm off the air for our annual summer staff meeting/shindig, and I'm entertaining a lovely college friend for the next few days. Hope you have a great weekend full of warm weather memories. (Or whatever passes for warm weather in Chicago this summer. Yeesh.)
