Chris Payne - Host of Local 101

11/18/2008

I’ve been hosting “local music” shows at various radio stations in the Midwest for over 18 years including 13 here in Chicago. Even though I'm an attorney/litigator at SmithAmundsen, and practice in the entertainment law group, I host Local 101 because I love independent music. I love getting a new cds from great new bands and exposing them to the people who check out “Local 101”. It’s just like when you discover a new band and want all your friends to listen to your new favorite song. That’s how I feel when I’m hosting Local 101. I’m playing something that I think is incredible and I want to play it for you.

Local 101 is only one hour, Sunday from 10 to 11PM, so I spin bands that have Chicago shows the following week. My philosophy is: I’ll play the tunes, people hear it, like it, go check out the band, they tell their friends, a buzz is started, they get bigger and bigger, and eventually noticed by a record company and the rest is history. Hopefully this begins a cycle that helps spotlight the local music scene here in Chicago.

Local music can not survive without your support. You can help! Tell as many people as you can to listen to "Local 101" every Sunday night, subscribe to the weekly podcast (free through iTunes), and become a "friend" on our myspace page to get weekly updates on local music news and events. If you need to reach me…regarding something local…send me an email cpayne@q101.emmis.com, or through myspace.com/local101. I can also be reached at SmithAmundsen for any and all entertainment legal questions at 312 894 3314…and that’s what I’ve got to say about that.
